  • Can't pass the inspection because the car is lowered? WTF?

So my gtr is lowered i've got like 2cm between the wheel and the body of the car. And the guy who was doing the oop inspection failed me saying that I need to get stock springs and bushing to get 1.5inch between the wheel and the body.
Now why is it when Im driving around Vancouver I see a ton of cars lower than mine, my friend has a Vdub and hes wheels are inside the car.
Why am I supposed to jack my car up? Is this guy jerking me around?

you can ask to see the book and have him show you the quote from it with the exact regulation. if he doesnt produce it or "cant find it" than hes not allowed to fail you on it. canadian tire tried to give me all this bull **** when i imported a car from the states a few years ago and i called them out on it on the spot and most of it was dropped. I am not sure the being too low is actually a rule though but it wouldnt suprise me if it was legit. what shop did you take it to?

welcome to living by winnipeg rules haha...they get us for this too...claim their needs to be 5 inches total of clearence, 2.5 down and 2.5 up and when the cops give you a road side inspection they push on your fenders with their body weight and say the suspension is no good.

manual does say 1.5" between tire and wheel well..

there are tons of cars driving around that would fail inspections..

however the RCMP dont have time to VI all them..

once your car is passed the first time go ahead and slam it all you want..

          :-)

          sucks but its life..

Exactly. Its gonna suck to go threw all that, but you gotta do, what you gotta do. Do you have adjustable coilovers? That would make it a bit easier. Pass inspection then Slam it to your liking. As said above

between the top of the tire and the bottom of the wheel well?

Most cars have that EASY, even if you're slammed. If you don't have 1.5" between the tire and wheelwell you probably don't have enough suspension travel to drive safely down the road, and should raise the car up a bit. I just checked in my R32 GTR (which is pretty low) and I can fit a 2x4 (so at least 1 3/4") on top of the tire with the car at rest. And there's room to spare after that. Lots of it.

If it's between the top of the tire and the fender lip as viewed from the side, lowering your car at all would result in failing, as would anything that comes with fender skirts from the factory (honda insight, various old cars, etc).

No adjustable coils. My friends from vancouver island were saying that some people there lift their trucks using hockey pucks. Can I do that lol? I just wanna pass the inspection and take em off afterwards.
Or anybody know a good suspension shop that sells coil springs spacers ?

i know when i used to work at Canadian tire and we had cars imported from the states, to pass the RIV (when the car is first imported) it does have to be on stock suspension, not that anyone ever cared, but to pass the MVI (our yearly inspection in NB) as long as the shocks dont leak and the springs dont drop and become unseated (like cheap ebay springs on a civic, lol) there is no issue with aftermarket suspension

here in sask we have a similar issue, but the only complaint they have ever had for my cars is the inability to drive up on the alignment machine

That is retarded, whoever told you that has their head firmly up their a$$. The DRL can be any color light that is legally allowed on the front of a vehicle in your territory. Must also be visible from 1km away (not sure where I found that). Hi-Intensity LEDs are plainly visible from 1km away.

The only rule that I know is a fact is; you can never have anything on the vehicle hanging below the level of the bottom of the rim and you must have a min. of 1.5" of space between the tire and anything in the wheelwell area (including the fender lip). If you have skinny little tires that are 1.5" away from the outer fender lip you can slam the car all you want to the point of the tire disappering into the wellwell and you will still be OK (as long as the first point is not breached).

If you put some winter wheels off of some other car that has a 5 on 114.3 pattern (fwd) then you will be fine. The tire will be "battleshipped" enough that you won't have an issue. Don't do Hockey Puck spacers (or any), they will most likely fail that too if it looks sketchy.

If some big fat cop pushed down on my ALUMINUM fender and hood with all of his weight and dented it he would be in a world of hurt. I would love to see him explain why the department has to spend $2000 dollars to replace them because you can't metalwork aluminum that thin into shape again like steel.

Plus, he would get an earfull from me infront of his watch commander once I demand that he be present (which they must do when you want to file a complaint, if he is avail.).

You can't let the man push you around, we have rights, you just need to let them know that you can't be bullsh1ted (which most hope that you don't know any better and take the abuse without a fight).
