Don't sell it! This shouldn't be that difficult. I got stickers for my car 3 weeks ago, no issues at all.

Stick with it buddy. I contemplated selling mine, so glad i didnt. Keep at your insurance company. if youre paying for insurance just tell em that youre paying yet you cant drive your car. Thats what i said with my company and then they "refreshed the data base" and i was good to go

I too had the same trouble getting my sticker last week (had only temp sticker before).

Apparently, they can override the system only once which is probably why some ppl were able to get a sticker.

For us, the not so lucky ones, if your vin gets flagged for whatever reason (for me, the temp sticker flagged the system), then it will disable the one time override.

Regardless, sooner or later EVERYONE will have to get their vin added to the exception list.

I called my ins broker and they were well aware about adding my car to the vin exception list. It only took 1 day to process. Off the the MTO tmw and can finally get her on the road.

Can anyone confirm that re-vinning isnt offered anymore? I was there last week swapping plate ownership but I completely forgot to ask. I did however, ask if that office deals with 12 digit vins and RHD cars often, she looked at me and said "good luck son, here take this number and I wish you the best". She handed me a business card with MTO head office's number on it. ugh!

edit: I was at the streetsville branch, off of queen st north of britannia

OK guys, I got some info on this.
At the beginning of this year, MTO and the insurance companies linked databases.
There is a big issue with some of the VINs in the system as a result of this link, so they introduced a VIN exception list.
This list applies to both RHD and LHD cars, many people with either are having problems.
What you have to do is call your insurance broker and say you need to be put on the VIN exception list, they will call the insurance company who will coordinate it with MTO. This should only take 24-48 hours, then you can go back to MTO and get your sticker.
If it doesn't happen in 48 hours, call your broker again and get on them. This is NOT an RHD only issue, so don't feel that you are asking for anything special, they should get it done quickly.

once the vin has been put on the "list" when you sell or buy does the new owner need to go threw this process again or will it be carried over?

I just renewed my plates and had no issues. The girl didn't know what the exception list was?

I tried to renew today, no dice, the MTO girl didnt have any idea why it was happening nor had she heard of the exception list. My car was imported and registered by RightDrive last summer. My broker suggested I take my RightDrive packet (vehicle and import history) with me next time and talk to a manager, I will update after I try again tomorrow.

Sorry I realized I didnt follow up on this, I got my stickers on the Friday afternoon (my birthday was Saturday).

If the MTO rep says that it is showing that you dont have insurance or anything like that ask them to call HQ or failing that speak to a manager, they will be able to confirm on the spot that you need to be added to the exception list.

Your broker likely will not know what the VIN exception list is however your insurance company does. Tell your broker to call the insurace company to get added to the list, do not accept any other option your broker provides, this is the only way around this issue.

Also, the exception list will take at least 24 hours to get updated (even with a rush order put on it) so make sure you plan ahead when getting your plates this year.

yes i had just gone through this with both skylines
make sure the appraisal has the right vin or insurance will change it when they receive it.
and yes they can manual overide once because ive done it in fonthill , at central motors (service center)
                          but they say they cant
