  • LHD Skyline Insurance Question

I was very interested when I first heard about how Elitetech Automotive is converting R33 GTRs to LHD, considering the current RHD insurance issues in Ontario. So does anyone know how insurance rates would compare for a LHD R33 GTR compared to a RHD one? I would think that LHD would be substantially cheaper, but isn't the conversion considered a modification to the car that would raise insurance?

    Thanks!

I just met a friend with an LHD R32 and he was saying insurance is telling him that LHD Conversions aren't safe. They are just looking for excuses I think to ream imports.

It wouldn't matter if it's RHD or LHD. Yes, it's hard to insure RHD, but what it comes down to is that it is a non-USDM car. They will hit you for that too. So if you convert your car to LHD for $5000 or whatever, you most likely will not get insurance anyway.

By the way, insurance rates for Skylines are based on the appraised value of the vehicle. So it wouldn't be cheaper anyways.
My advice, wait until you are 25.
