January 24 was the HKS Premium Day at Fuji Speedway, and HKS invited us out to the event along with other businesses and all the HKS fans in Japan.
The Premium Day is an event where HKS rents out the entire circuit and has races with customer cars, HKS dealer demo cars, other company's race cars, and of course HKS's own fleet of heavily-tuned cars. Also, HKS and other friends of HKS had booths revealing new products and great demonstrations.
The theme this year seemed to be the domination of Central Japan. With HKS (Shizuoka), Esprit (Mie), Auto Select (Osaka), ATTKD (Nagano), Garage Defend (Aichi), Street Special (Aichi), Voltex (Mie), HKS Kansai (Nara) and other Tokai area shops dominating both the races, and the hearts of the fans.
The schedule consisted of 6 customer/shop car races, 2 Video Option races with a selection of cars from some of Japan's top tuning shops, a few races with HKS's top cars, and a the grand finale, an R35 battle with HKS, Garage Saurus, Street Special, Esprit and Garage Defend. Unfortunately the last R35 battle was cut short due to a snow storm starting, but they still gave fans a great taste of what to expect in the future!
This show was an absolute success, HKS not only put on a great performance, but they showed just how big their muscles are, and how deep their pockets go. With an incredible amount of HKS demo cars (including a fleet of R35s), parts demonstrations, HKS proved that they have not been affected negatively such as Trust and Apexi. Also, the HKS staff was amazing, there were HKS coats everywhere to help with questions and inquiries.
Also, HKS showed that even though they are in competition with other parts makers who were present, they can all have an event together, pat each other on the back, and strengthen the community as a whole.
A lot of companies we deal with were part of this event, and it was great to see them and talk to them about new parts and their plans for 2009.
Enough talking! On to the pics!
