  • Blow Off Valve soundclips!

It's time we get one of these threads on GTRC. Let's make this a sticky for people shopping for BOVs based on sound clips. I bought an HKS unit thinking I'd like it and turns out i sound like a ricer everytime I shift. I'm tired of looking for BOV sounds and not finding much. Let's help everyone find the BOV they're after by posting sound clips, make/model, recirc/atmos and any other useful information. I'd like to know what the other units sound like: ARC, SARD, Blitz, Synapse, GReddy... etc.

    Make: HKS
Model: SSQV II (2 different valves: 1 used for low boost like low RPM shifting and one for higher boost)
    Vent type: Atmospheric
Install type: Direct bolt on, no mods required however it does not replace OEM BOVs as the install location on a GTR is to replace the flex pipe that connects to the intake plenum. A delete pipe or perma seal of the OEM units is required to stop nuissance leaks.
Product opinion: I think this is the best performing BOV however it's the worst sounding when it comes to not wanting a ricer BOV.

I'll post a clip once it's installed but the HKS unit is already all over the net...

of all the bov's ive heard so far, SARD ones are by far, THE BEST, as they are the most non fruity sounding, just a nice solid PSSSSH.

R2D2 is great, had them on 2 of my previous cars, sure they look kinda weird, but whatever, they sound sweet.

i have a SARD Racing blow off valve waiting to go on my gtr now... will post a clip of that when its on, i wouldnt hold your breath though, it might be awhile :P

i believe you can take the inserts out of the ssqv's
understeer -is when you go off the road and see the tree that kills you
oversteer-is when you go off the road backwards and dont see the tree that kills you

              ^ that sounds awesome turismo

i dont know if it was studio enhanced, probably was, but the bovs from the R34 in 2F2F were just amazing, especially in that Prelude to the movie, when the car is decal/vinyl-less
              Victory is on the horizon..

Synchronic BOV is one of my favourites sound wise. The fact it doesn't have diaphram which makes it faster reacting interests me more than other BOV's -

This shows how the Synchronic BOV works and is pressure tested, etc -

And how quick the Synchronic BOV releases pressure (very quickly) -

Wow, didn't blow off the flange at 37psi and reponsive at any boost level.

In this videoclip you can hear the Sard BOV going off -

I love the fluttering sound of the Tial BOV. Is that due to engine tune and higher boost pressure or can you get that sound from any setup? I'd love to have that type of BOV sound on my car.

i know the SQV hks bov at low boost makes a nice flutter, the older model hks not the ssqv, and lets out a burst of air at full boost

I don't really mind what brand it is. It's not really for performance purposes on my car, I'm just in love with that fluttering sound. So if I can get that from the Tial or the old SQV without changing anything else in my engine bay then I'm set but I want to be sure before I buy either one. I can't stand the sound from the new SSQV. From what I've heard it's a really high pitched whistle. I love a low "whoosh" and flutter. More feedback!! Great thread.

lol if you stick a water bottle cap in the hose before the bov it'll flutter and hold boost in the system so it doesn't have to spool. pretty sure it's very hard on the turbo. my friend showed up to my house and was like try this! slammed the cap in and it was fluttering and such. it sounded cool but i'd like my turbo to last so i took it out.

Stock BOV can do that flutter sound when modified (my car does this). But the flutter sound is a form of compressor surge (air hitting compressor blade and slowing compressor wheel down) that's not good for turbo CHRA (Centre Housing Rotating Assembly). A BOV is meant to remove compressor surge and keep the turbo spooled. It's function, not sound.
