  • Brendan's Detailing Thread

    Hey guys,

First real post here, some of the local Vancouver guys know who I am, some don't. My names Brendan and I've been detailing for about 2 years going on 3. This summer I really got into detailing. I never expected myself to get into detailing this much, but I'm not one to complain. Anyways I'll let the pictures speak. Before I post I should mention I hope I'm not causing a problem by posting my details up. I'm not a paying member nor a sponsor, not looking to gain business from posting. Just sharing.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My friend referred his uncle who owns this and an A8L that I'll be doing tomorrow. As well as quite a few other vehicles. This 996 Turbo is one raspy sounding ride, but I'm not complaining. This was in for everything but polishing. I may be polishing it later on. It got full interior, and wash and wax exterior, as well as wheel wells/engine bay detailed. Anyways here is what I used for the products:

    Wash:
    - 2 Bucket Method w/ Grit Guards
    - Proline Grout Sponge
    - Majestic Solutions Super Green Stuff
    - Dawn Dish Washing Soap
    - Majestic Solutions Ultra Gloss

    Wheels/Tires:
    - Majestic Solutions Super Green Stuff
    - Raceglaze XL Wheel Brush
    - Meguiars Tire Brush
    - Old Sponge cut in half
    - Gloss-It Signature Tire Gloss

    Interior:
    - Majestic Solutions Leather & Plastic Cleaner
    - Lexol Leather Conditioner
    - Finish Kare 108 Dressing
    - Finish Kare 316 Fabric Sealant
    - Chemical Guys Window Cleaner
    - RagShack Window WW
    - Wal-Mart MFs
    - Autowerkes Exclusive MF Applicator Pads

    Engine Bay:
    - Majestic Solutions Super Green Stuff
    - Finish Kare 108 Dressing
    - Autowerkes Exclusive MF Applicator Pads

    Last Step Protection:
    - Bilt Hamber Autobalm
    - Black Fire Foam Applicator:worship2:
    - Rag Shack Super Fly Towel

    On to the pictures!:thud:
    2BM w/ GGs FTW!

    dirty dirty rims

Swirls...hoping I get to polish it

    Interior:

    Gum on the seats

MS SGS at work on tires

MS SGS at work on rims:applause2:

    Calipers cleaned as well

Before of the rims when they were dry, brake dust was caked on terribly, picture does no justice

Raceglaze Wheel Brush from Ken, works amazingly! Don't even touch my Megs one, the RG one barely splatters...helps keep my legs "brake dust" free lol

    Using a sponge

    Rinsed off

    brake dust water

    After of the wheels:

    On to the wash stage

    Fuel Filler area was filthy

Sadly...nothing I could do, the paint on the exhaust tips was chipping off

    Engine bay all tidied up

    Trim got dressed 50/50 shot

    Time to clay

Gloss-It Signature Tire Gloss dwelling...I love this stuff!

    Buffed off

These next two shots demonstrate the filling capabilities of Bilt Hamber Autobalm, quite impressive

    Key hole, filthy!

    Cleaned

    Reflection:

    Waxing the Ruf spolier:worship2:

Ken taught me this way of applying Autobalm. It works very well, lets you do a larger area without having the wax dry up on you.... you don't want Autobalm to dry. Here is how I do it, mist the area lightly with water

Then apply, and wipe off...simple and effective

Collinite 845 for the windows, love doing this...works like a charm

    All done!

    Lovin the glass

Sorry didn't take durings of the interior, I got a bit rushed.

    Pedals could have been better

Before I go on with the pictures, I must say I could not have done this detail without my Raceglaze Wheel Brush. My Meguiars Wheel Brush could not have done this good of a job on the rims without taking them off! Now on to the pictures!

          Trunk jamb was filthy!

          Interior:

          Notice the metal trim

          Not bad

          Sorry for the blurry picture

Engine bay not much better, pictures don't do it justice as usual

Here is proof of how dirty the engine bay was, this was only after popping the hood up

Exterior, sorry for the blurry shots again

Rims were by far the worst I've ever experienced. Hard to get at and very very many spokes... Thank god for my Raceglaze XL Wheel Brush though!

          :shead:

yeah yeah...rims dont like that bad right?

Exhaust tips just needed some cleaning, not to bad

          Fuel filler was dirty

          Pressure Washing the Wheel Wells

          Cleaning the wheels/tires

Raceglaze Wheel Brush...I would pay $40 for this thing...

Sorry for the water on the lens

          Cleaning the Fuel Filler

          Cleaning the engine bay

          Dressing the engine bay

          o0o shiny!

          Time to clay!

          After three panels

          Claying

          Before

          During

          After

Gloss-It Signature Tire Gloss, my favourite tire dressing for sure!

          Wheels After

          Cleaned the spare wheel

          MS SGS dwelling

          50/50

Much better, best I could do with APC

This was on the metal door trim, it took forever to get it off, I had to pick at it with my nail. Then I got rid of the glue residue with some IPA

          almost there

          gone!

Interior afters...as you can tell, not many

LSP, was Bilt Hamber Autobalm. I love this stuff!

Insane reflection off of the sunroof

          Some sun shots

          spare tire nice and clean

          Fuel Filler as well

More engine bay pictures, I loved the result I got! Owner was very happy as well

Unfortunately I didn't get to take before pictures of Jakub's (Polak_GTS-T) ride. It was in decent shape, actually great shape for a car at that age. It had a new paint job that cured and needed some wax. So I just detailed it before the Z-Tune BBQ. Here are some pics.
                Jakub's car all cleaned up

                waxed his rims as well

May I ask how you would treat a Matte finish? Silvia was just sprayed last weekend and now trying to figure out the best formula for cleaning.

The closest I've ever come in contact with a matte finish is Adon's G35C thats painted Lamborghini white. It was just a wash though. I know for sure I wouldn't polish it. I wouldn't recommend waxing the finish either, just claying. If you do want some protection on it though, I would try a test spot on somewhere that isn't visible to see what wax would do. But I haven't had much experience with matte finishes. But a wash and clay would do just fine I know that. Let me know what you want done and I'll look into it.

Detailed these two engine bays. Started at 5:30 and finished at around 8:30. Not to bad, this was just strictly engine bay and no exterior. I think they turned out really well. Definitely better than before. The red car is a twin turbo so it was a pain in the ass working on it. Super tight and the engine was still really hot. The black one wasn't much better, had these little white specs that were a pain to take out.

                              Products Used:
                              -Majestic Solution Super Green Stuff
                              -Finish Kare 108 Poly Protectant
                              -Isopropyl Alcohol
                              -Costco MFs
                              -Meguiars Brush
                              -Michael's Brush
                              -Microfiber Applicator Pad

                              Before:

                              Afters:

                              Second Car Befores:

                              White pain the ass specs!

Glue residue, did the best I could. Soaked it in APC and tried soaking it Isopropyl Alcohol...I only got a bit off

                              Cleaned but no protectant

                              After FK108

I did the best I could with both engine bays, the red one was extremely hard to get at. But I think both came out noticeably well. Let me know what you think and thanks for looking!
