I think the VH engine is based of the 5.5 litre / 305 CI? Chevy engine but destroked to 4.1 litre or 4.5 litre as shown above. As far as I know the bottomend parts on the Chevy engine are known to fit into the Nissan VH engine. Nissan ran a 5.5 litre Chevy engine in R381 racecar that I think competed in Canam series when it first started.
As far as I know it's called Infiniti in USA. There is the VK56VD that's around 400-420hp stock in the Infiniti M56, etc. Then add a turbo or supercharger kit, adaptor plate for bellhousing, custom mounts, rewiring to suit, etc.Last edited by Skym; 11-11-2011, 05:58 PM.RESPONSE MONSTER

Not screwing with anyone. It took me by surprise the first time I heard of a Chevy engine in a Nissan racecar.
The 1968 R381 racecar in this link below had a Chevy V8 engine (race history I could find of this racecar on web says it won races, was built for Canam, etc) -
[Option's official website] Japanese tuning car industry magazine, latest DVD trailers, latest D1 Grand Prix info, online shop.
Later model VH V8 engines are said by people on forums, who have rebuilt them to fit Chevy bottomend parts (I think was from a 305?). Makes me think they used the basic Chevy V8 design and improved upon it?
Try looking on Nico forums, as there seems to be alot of info on VH45, etc V8 engines -
