Best street/drag tires available?

I currently run Sumitomo HTR ZIII and on the dragway, I don't know if its the clutch, diff or tires but I feel like the car rev but doesnt move... like a lost of traction.. maybe.

So I'm wondering, which tire would you rate as sticky good drag tire while still beeing able to use it in the rain? I was thinkign azenis 615k but any other suggestion?

I would maybe first find out which of the two you are getting because if its wheel spin then tires would be good, if its the clutch slipping, then stickier tires are just gonna kill whatever is left from the clutch in a hurry
just my opinion however, sorry cant really help with the tire bit

I have the 615 azenis. They are a great tire for road racing and street use but not so good for drag. The problem is they when they are cold or if it's cold outside. They don't really get "good" until they're HOT.

There are plenty of drag radial tires that are ideal for drag racing while still remaining street legal. You can drive in the rain with them on but they are far from an "ideal" rain tire.

If you've got a GTR that has less than 500 horsepower, I'd bet on clutch slip over tire slip.

As I was browsing other forums.. maybe its a differential slip because it usually happens when I try to apply too much torque on the front wheel.

Sumitomo were great bang for the buck AS A STREET TIRES and better than my exclaim UHP. Now, I'm looking for a DRAG while still beeing street legal.

No good drag tire will be good in the rain. Those require opposite characteristics. Rain requires deep grooves so the water can get pressed into the groove, letting the tread block contact pavement in the wet. A drag tire wants no grooves, so you have as much treat on the track as possible, and a tall sidewall to absorb the shock of the launch.

Ideally you want a drag radial at the dragstrip, and a street tire on the street. A drag radial is DOT approved and can run on the street, but won't work in the rain at all.

By record I ran Toyo R1R's as a compromise of street, roadcourse, and drag tire. But they didn't excel in any area.

Mickey Thompson ET Drag Radials, 255/50r16. Officially an 8 sec. tire on a GTR. Run the Sumitomos on the street (I personally love them).

Also use stock R32 GTR rims (they are around 6.5kg each vs aftermarket wheels that can be 17kg+).

Nitto, BFG radial street drag tyres are the other options.

They are like semi slick tyres (slick tyre with grooves).

It's funny that the reviews in the BFG link you gave said a lot about how well the tires wore an how the Mickey Thompsons were better at the track.

I have seen guys running the BFGs at autocross events as well, they swear by them. More forgiving and more predictable on the edge than an R compound race tire....go figure.

BFG tyres have reinforced, straight sidewalls that actually reduce bodyroll by alot and gives it better stability. It's not until you try Falkens with a more curved sidewall vs BFG that you notice the difference in sidewall design, reduction in bodyroll, etc.

Dunlops for example, supposedly allow more slip before they grip, so helps car to corner slightly better than say Bridgestones.

Each tyre has different characteristics (suits different applications) and suspension needs to match. It's not as simple as just selecting a tyre, as everything around a tyre has to work with it.
