This happened the last week of September, so just about under a month ago but I thought I'd share.
Driving home from Wal-Mart, just got some grocerices and had a lot of assignments/homework to catch up on. Entering my area, there was a R.I.D.E program set up. Didn't think anything of it, proceeded forward once the car ahead of me moved. Usual routine for the most part, then things got weird..
Cop: "Evening, RIDE spot check, anything to drink tonight?
Me: "No sir"
Cop: "Ok, what's in the bags?"
Me: "My groceries"
Cop: "At this time of the night?"
Me: "Yes...didn't have a chance to go before, had lots of classes today"
Cop: "Okay, could you do me a favor and just pull ahead where the next officer is?"
Unsure of what I did, I drove up. The cop points towards the shoulder of the road so I pull over. From this point on, I'm talking to the second cop.
Cop: "Hello sir, where are you headed today and what's with the car from England?"
Me: "I'm on my way home from grocery shopping, and this car was imported from Japan"
Cop: "Weird, is this legal? Do you have proper vehicle insurance?"
Me: "Yes the previous owner had this car in Canada in 2006 and yes I do" *Hand him proof of insurance*
Cop: "Okay I'm going to break it down quickly for you, my partner wasn't very happy with the amount of noise your car makes, so were going to run some quick tests to ensure your car is certified for Ontario roads and you'll be on your way, understand?"
Me: *Unsure of what was about to happen* "Yeah, sure..."
Cop: *Waves the first cop that stopped me to come over*
While the second cop asks me to do certain things, the other cop was walking around my car, looking underneath and shining his light inside.
Cop: "Alright, all I need to see is your 4-ways, your horn, your headlights, high beams, brake lights and reverse lights and you're on your way"
I do all those things, and then the first cop walks back to his position.
Cop: "Alright great thanks for your cooperation. Before I let you go, how long has the car been insured?"
Me: "Since June, when I bought it"
Cop: "Okay, great, drive safe"
Glad it ended without a court date or a headache of some sort, but thought I'd share my random stop.
