If every car was scrapped that needed a little loving and attention there wouldn't be too many on the road. 179,000 certainly does not classify as super duper high scrap yard mileage, to me at least. You'd also be surprised at the number of "low km" imports that are actually far higher than that with swapped out clusters etc....

Some of these import/export guys scare me, the process can be very very shady.
A car with rust around the rear fenders suggests a car that also has alot of rust under the unibody frame, within the door mounts and jams, and in the body bracing. If he wanted a fixer upper, he'd be looking at a good 7-8000 dollars to get it in non rusted shape.

And yes, I know these Shady people. Sadly.

Had the car on the hoist yesterday. Its not in bad shape. My body guy has quoted me around 1000 to take care of it properly. He's a friend of mine so he's cutting me a deal.

I'm stoked. I'll have a good condition, good running GTR for 6000. On the ROAD. Wooohooooo!

Good luck with reconstruction, no sarcasm. do you plan on buying a new 26? 180 clicks and a blown turbo can be quite the bitch, i would think.
          Victory is on the horizon..

Thanks dude. Motor is still in great shape according to the shop that's taking care of the re and re. So, crossing my fingers.

Got some wheels today, thank God. Car is going in for surgery on Monday.

I'm very undecided with this though. I really really miss my S14 and reading about all these oil/crank issues scare the hell out of me. While not new to turbo cars by any way shape or form. I am definitely a Skyline noob and think I may be in over my head for a reliable track and daily driver.

                Don't say that.

I'll be the first one here to tell you, that if you can get the right guy to work on it for you, you should be fine.

Let me tell you a story:

My first GT-R was a '92 with 46K on it. Literally one of a kind, and beautiful. Mostly NISMO parts, including the rare intercooler cover.

Like the idiot I was, I decided I would try and do the engine myself. Refresh it, clean it, re-grease, re-oil, change bad filters, plugs, etc.

Big mistake. My first mistake was disconnecting the F-Con Pro and then starting the car. I had a massive misfire. My second big mistake was trying to correct my actions, by digging into the engine bay, and tearing stuff apart. I ended up lifting up the head, and not being able to carry it properly, and dropping it, and having it crack. Yes. Crack.

I decided all hope was lost, and called it quits for the time being. About 3 days later, I heard the unfortunate news that I had a family member that had passed away (bad) and that she had left me an inheritance (good!).

I quickly gathered the money, and got someone to do my car RIGHT.

If you can find someone who is willing to devote some hard hours into an RB26DETT, and who knows what they're doing, then you can't go wrong. In less then a month, my car was back on the road and as good as new. The engine was so smooth, it sounded like a spoon in a yogurt cup, spinning around.

Take your time, have fun. Don't be afraid to do things the wrong way, and learn from them, but at the same time, watch the steps you make very carefully.

A GT-R is an expensive experience.

I ended up being set back 1200 dollars for a new RB26 head. Luckily for me, it was a nice clean one, from a NUR spec R34.
