Hey, just wondering how easy/hard it is to cut into these, and how clean the edges are where you cut? (I'm guessing not so clean....so it may not work for my needs).

I might end up asking what the cost of a custom template would be, once I know what I need.

        I'll take a pic of the cut-edge.

I've used dremel, super-shears (sold by cutco, it cuts pennies) then sanded the edges for a smoother finish.

People have the mis-understanding that these are going to be fibrous and loose when cut. No, once the resin is impregnated and cured into the fibers(this is what gives CF its shear strength : weight ratio), it is SOLID. I would compare cutting/dealing with the plates as cutting into a super hard vinyl counter-top plate, but not as flakey/brittle.

The only downside of cutting CF is that it's hard on your cutting tools (drill bits, shears, dremel bits) as it is very very dense/abrasive.

the carbon is pretty okay to cut. Me and shane did all the work we needed to do on it with a dremel and some sandpaper. Based on my zero experience with carbonfiber, this stuff is very easy to work with and it doesn't come all loose and sharp edged. It can be tough on tools, so just have tough tools to start. Also it's worth taping up the whole piece before you work on it, i'd imagine it keeps things together and also keeps your surfaces shiney

Here are some pix of the edges.

Single DIN and triple, which is paid for and ready to ship to fellow members! Note no jagged edges nor loose fiber. *excuse the rain drops, it rained a bit when I took pix, it's not an imperfection

Can you throw up a picture of the Exhaust shield once you can Im probably going to grab one off you too, and also I was wondering, I have 3 2.5" gauges I want to mount either in my glove box or on the passenger side dash.. so i would need slightly longer piece. I guess easiest way you could go by mesurements?

just on my last double DIN for the season (sold to a member to be shipped soon). I've started this as a fun winter/spring project. Summer is too busy for this. I'll be back on this later at the end of the summer or in fall/winter again.

                            thanks for your interest.

I do have one single DIN left over if anyone wants.

regular price as posted in #1.

                              Single DIN

                              Hey M13,

I'll take the single DIN for now. I need something to mount my new gauges in. Do you accept EMT? Let me know the final price for shipping to 7000 Fisher Road SE, Calgary, T2H 0W3.

                              Thanks,

                              Mike

Mike, the one I have doesn't have a straight edge other either long end and I'd like to have a clean edge since it's sitting against the stereo deck and totally noticeable. What have you used to make it a straight edge without breaking it? If I remove what I need to even it, there isn't enough to stay under the trim on top.

Also, have you got any pictures of how you've mounted this? It's very thin so I almost need an 1" in spacing, do you just screw or glue wood? help!
