WTB: BNIB RB26 ARP Head studs. I will pay $201 shipped
It was until the head blew 3 days before I was going to park her It sucks because I was planning on doing the head studs this winter from the beginning, now I have a massive mess to deal with Draining oil on Thursday, will know more then.
Ahh Gotcha! Sorry to hear that man. I have 2 RB heads if you need, one crazy port job and clearanced for cams and another stock head complete... Also have a set of ARP used you can have for 75$ if you want.
Oh really? Awesome, ya ill grab those ARP bolts from ya. Whats the story with them? Were they from the engine that ran the bearing? Whats the mileage on them? Thanks.
Hate to kill a sale but using used head studs is asking for another rebuild. Once they're torqued more than once the head has a good chance of lifting. One thing you never want to cheap out on!
I was thinking about this a lot. I have access to a BNIB set and i was going to compare the new vs used with some calipers. If the studs havnt plastically elongated I dont see why there would be a problem. If anything theyd be work-hardened from the heat cycles lol
Im not sure on how bad it would be, if I were dumping thousands into a motor, I would hate to take the chance for the sake of 1-200 bucks. All i know is a friend of mine used a set of reportedly lightly used studs and had head lift within weeks. another rebuild.
That's what I was thinking, it says bnib in the ad, but I've used old studs plenty of times with no issues, never in a badass rb though. People used to say when u put em back, make sure there in the same location, guess that's oldschool though., think for the extra hundred bucks I'd get new, save yourself the paranoia!!!
Why would a lifted head need a rebuild? I dont have any coolant in the oil, the head has yet to be pulled, but as long as there's no warpage I dont see why a rebuild would be needed. Anything I need to look out for?
Idk im not super mechanically inclined, Im just going off of what he said. All i've been told by everyone when asking about studs is "doesnt really matter what studs you use, ARPs would be nice though. just make sure theyre not used!!" lol
