Not all GTR's had and RB engine but they have always had and Inline 6..
The new naming does not make any sense even calling this car a GTR is kinda silly, aside form some basic ideas there is thing that really makes this a GTR. All other GTR have been based off hi production car and shared many parts with them. The soul reason GTR's were made was to homologate them so they could race them. This car is far too luxyo and thus making it much too fat to really do that and company not longer need to Homologate cars for racing....
So yea that ranter does have a point, sorta but not really for his reasons.

      My point was pretty simple...

Either it's a Skyline or not.....and get the naming scheme right either way in regards to the 'numbers' used.

Some people say RELATED TO and some say NOT RELATED TO......it's a cluster f$ck either way.

...not a Skyline, but uses the incrimental R series distinction (R35 after the last R34).

      ...not a Skyline blah, blah........

And as far as an RB (or even a VR) being a Skyline Qualifying trate - some R31's and R32's came out with CA18's.......back to the drawing board for that one. One could argue and say that every GT-R included some type of Inline 6, might be onto something, but would be really reaching......and only somewhat true, but by pure coincidence.

      Oh yes, 1 more thing......
G35 not a Skyline ? tell that to the people in Japan driving around with a VQ powered V35 "Skyline"........just because Nissan sold it under the Infiniti namebrand here as a G35, doesn't mean it wasn't a Skyline. G=V...and NOT because of 3.5L as someone mentioned before.

      Last but not least........
An R34 GT-R Skyline is the top of The R34 group.

By using R35, Nissan is basically telling us that the new GT-R is related to the V35 Skyline (the *35 series of Skylines).

It was because of THAT, that I said the naming scheme sucks.

Read the Wikipedia links, follow the history... and you will agree with me more and more.
