    Nissan revealed earlier this year that they will be making a competitive entry into the FIA GT Championship for 2010 with a Nissan R35 GT-R built to GT1 specifications. In collaboration with NISMO and Gigawave Motorsports the car will be entered into four races in 2009 for testing and development. The first race it will be entered into is Silverstone, round 1 on May 3rd 2009.

    Today specifications are out and the car was photographed testing at the Paul Ricard HTTT facility in the south of France during the media function and first official test day for the 2009 championship season.

    As predicted the GT1 GT-R features a front mounted naturally aspirated V8 engine, a VK56DE with a displacement of 5,552cc. The VK develops 600hp and more than 650Nm of torque. It’s mated to a Ricardo 6 speed transaxle via a 5.5″ carbon triple plate clutch. All this drives only the rear wheels. Carbon brakes and pads all round are clamped by 6 piston front and 6 piston rear calipers. Putting the power to the ground are 18″ x 13″ Rays forged wheels all round.

      I like.

      Looks better than the factory car. Maybe they will convert that look into a road spec version, like they did with the 400R and Z-tune???

            I just came in my pants.

            That thing is hot and if they did run 18x13-inchers all around that would be hardcore.

            Igor used to run 12s all round on his AutomotiveForums.com R34 wearing a 315mm IIRC.

                Anyone aware of what compression ratio the vk56DE is running?
                I'd like to know how nissan go that much power out of an NA motor

                Aside from headwork/porting/lightweigh components etc.

                I'm just wondering how honda can make a 2 litre engine with 210 horsepower (50 ft/lbs of torque) and ford makes a 4.6 litre monster v8 that makes just 270 horsepower and 300ftlbs. lol... Though I have been contemplating 11:1 pistons and some new heads on my v8 to put it up to about 450whp and well over 550ft lbs of torque on an NA motor... lol.

                  Don't you mean Honda makes 240hp in the 2.0L F20C 1st gen S2000?

                  FWIW: Current NA 4.6L is 300hp and the Bullitt is 315hp/325tq

                  I believe the most hp/L V8 is the RS4: 420hp with 4.2L

                    It's also a race spec motor. So it's setup for running at higher rpms for long periods of time.

                    Put it this way,

                    Honda has a higher reving motor so they make the power up at the higher end which means it makes less torque on the lower end.

                    Now your Mustang makes it's power off the the line having a medium range setup. More low end power to create tones of torque off the line and get you moving up to speed quickly. And you can idle up hills in 5th gear at 1,000 rpms with your foot off the gas, that was pretty cool too. Try doing that in a honda, it would be like putting the clutch in and holding it down resulting in you rolling back down the hill.

                    All in all, honda's may make 210 horse power but it will take you 5-10 minutes to get it up to the point where you are using it all unlike the Mustang that will be using it's 270 horse power all the time.

                      They built Nissan V8's for Infinti Indy racecars in the US, so there are people that know these engines.

                      VK56DE is around 300hp in stock form with stock exhuast, etc, so 600hp is only 300hp more, which probably can be done on Methonal or racegas with the mods below.

                      High duration, lift cams, extractors, intake plenum, bigger throttle body, aftermarket ECU, higher compression, more revs than stock (this is where head mods like valve guides, etc are needed) and methonal. Also lighter engine conponents to support higher reving, inverse dome shape on top of pistons (piston crowns) to suck in more air, etc.

                          Oh yeah, I mean I know how to make power on these motors. I just wanted to know specifically what the VK56DE did.

                          It's just so sad they don't utilize cool things that make power from the factory.

                          IE: ford doesn't use DOHC except on cobras.
                          LOL.

                          And yes mine is a 2000 GT.

                          Powerband in my opinion is too predicable and boring. kind of like pushing a shopping cart. You have a lot of torque off to the line and your speed peaks off too quickly and then you're just an idiot running with a shopping cart.
