  • Getting my bike

So lately I've been thinking about getting my motorcycle license, and buying a used 250cc ( still trying to decide make), but i was wondering what would be the ideal size after the 250cc?:?:

600cc would be ideal if you want good power and response and also it wont be too heavy like a 1000cc or a 1300cc bike like a hayabusa. 600cc OR 750cc would be good, if your getting a 250cc motorcycle get the new kawi ninjas they have the perfect amount of HP and torque for beginner riders and they look ******* amazing

buy a 250cc. I worked at a motorcycle dealership, and seeing all the crashed 600cc bikes come in that were driven by new riders was sad to see. Not saying it will happen to you, but I started on a 250cc and it was the best idea because you don't need to keep worrying about using too much power. It gives you a chance to learn the fundimentals and techniques.

Since you already have a Skyline (I assume)... you should do what I did and pick up a grey market japanese bike. i had a yamaha FZR250 as a first bike. it was sweet until I crashed (lowside).. chances are you will too. It's not if you crash it's when.

Check out the honda VFR400, that is an awesome bike and I want to pick one up as my next toy.

p.s. the new ninjas a gutless wonders... stay away. if you want a ninja get an older model.

I'm doing a bit of thread jacking (sorry) but, can I use a 50cc and under moped on my L? I've been thinking about getting one until I can get my N.

your class 7L? No unfortunatley you can't with just that.

Now if you WANTED to... this is what you need to do.

Go to ICBC, take the class 6/8 learners test. - pass
Wait 30 days, go to ICBC and do your "MST" (cone/parking lot test) with said scooter - pass

Now you will hold a Class 8L which, once you pass that, you can ride a scooter (or a motorcycle, if you took the MST on a bike at least 250cc with shifting) during daylight hours by yourself.

With just a class 7L you can't. The class 8 test is uber easy, so go try it out.

I kinda don't follow the last part about what you said. You're saying I could get a 250cc bike and use it on a class 8L? Or is that "2" a type and I can only use a 50cc scooter?

you can ride 50cc with a normal drivers license.

or a 6d which takes 50$ and 20 mins to get.

pretty fantastic if you ask me

it's different here in BC. And the poster does not have his full license yet, only his learners which requires an adult to drive with him. So he can not ride a scooter with that.

Anyways, to answer his question... first off get your 8L by taking the written test.

Then after 30 days you can take a parking lot cone test which allows you to ride by yourself, but only during daylight.

If you take the test on a 50cc scooter, you will be restricted to only 50cc.

Now if you can handle shifting, and riding a real bike... you can take the test on a 250cc like a ninja. Then you will be allowed to ride anything, 600cc... 1000cc, whatever (although I strongly urge you to not go bigger than 250cc)
