The 4800-5000w construction heaters are well worth the money, they have an internal fan if you didn't notice, My garage stays a cozy 15°C and the heater kicks on maybe once every 30 min for 5 minutes. A well insulated garage doesn't need much heat to keep it warm.

as for your gaps, if the door isn't going to move for while then sticking in insulation will work and be easy. you just want to stop the cold air for blowing in, if you look at good installations the tolerance is tight but they still use a wide rubber flap of sorts to keep the airflow from happening.

Their still inefficient. I suppose if you don't pay for electricity their no so bad:-P They put out nowhere near the BTUs as a propane heater

I just installed a wood buring stove,i have a garage thats about 25x30.it takes a bout 1.5-2 hours to warm up but when its going its about 30 degrees in there and there is no insilation.my favorit part is its free heat i just use scrap wood i find or get scraps from work.
free heat cant argue with that.
i was able to score the whole stove and chiminy peices from craigs list.

wood stoves are awesome because they keep everything dry. Me and my buddy restored his 86 F150 last winter and with the wood stove the bondo/primer dryed hella fast.

well I'm going to pick up one of these. good price and it seems like it will do the job I need it to do.

going to permanently mount it out of the way and "set it and forget it"

link doesn't work because the canadian tire website is gay.

I too have one of the small construction heaters, mine is 6000W and 220V though.

it heats my garage from "real cold" to "too hot" in about 20 minutes if it's empty, and 30-45 if it's gotta heat a car too.

If you aren't planning on opening the door, stuff old plastic grocery bags or whatever in the cracks, hang blankets across the opening if the door isn't insulated, etc.. lots you can do to make it much more hospitable.

If you just take a small 1500w ceramic heater it should eventually heat the place up as long as you've got the drafts sealed.

go to the canadian tire site and put "v3s6h7" as the pstl code and then try the link again, it should work.

I have a small ceramic heater, and used it most of last year. It worked alright but this year I want something a little warmer.
