Hyundai Genesis is the most important SC of 2009 ?

The Hyundai Genesis COUPE is being hailed as the most important Sport Compact to be released for 2009....according to a few publications both online and in print.

RWD, Looks decent, Powerplant based on the GEMA 'World Engine' Project......



It is currently being hailed as the car that will put the Nissan 240 to rest in the 'modern world' of Sport Compact Tuning in North America, yet challenges the G37 for performance and the Eclipse for price.

It is said, that this is a purpose built 'Tuner Car'.

What do you guys think ?

well if the price is right then i dont see why it wont be good for tuners...

my GF loves the tiburon's look, but i hate how its nose heavy and slow in both accel and steering response... i also dont like the tiby being fwd...

however the genesis could be replaceing her current DD.... i dont see us tuning it up and making it morethan what it is...

as for saying it will replace the 240 and give the g37 a run for its money is just a marketing ploy, as how the car actually performs and holds up to abuse will proove its true worth to the tuning community...

i think its great for the community at large... there are NO affordable, tuneable rwd NEW cars out there...

the cheapest RWD cars atm are the solstice and the sky, and maybe the hairdressers car aka miata... but the 350z the g37 and all the other attractive RWD vehicles are out of touch with price point for a SC

if this car is everything it hopes to be i think it will be good for the world of tuning, finally might see some new ideas coming from the more well known makers. Hyundai's are cheap, but they obviously are not complete junk. if this can handle the abuse of drifting then good for hyundai.

The new tibs don't look too bad. Prob one of the few front wheel drive cars id own.

id consider owning a hyundai once they have a couple more years of reliable products under their belt. until then, id prefer giving my money to honda and toyota. if i were to buy it as a throw away car once warranty runs out, id buy just about anything other then domestic, so id give the hyundai a chance

actually by the sounds of the reports even people who have said hyandai make **** cars are impressed with the Genesis. I like it cause they have ditched some of the more upmarket features and put in a solid engine, rwd and decent looks at a good price. If its built well then yeah it will be a nice car. Sorta scary..... nice car and hyandai never go together. Will be interesting to see...... it better freaken slide well.

I know everyone likes to trash Hyundais but the truth is they make really good cars. They used to be Sh!t, but they have learned very quickly. Just look at some of the mainstream mags like car and driver or consumer reports. More often than not the quality and reliablity is up there with Toyota and Honda. Now Hyundai is trying to make cars that we want to buy (versus need to buy). I think the combo is pretty good here. The Genesis looks pretty good as does the current Tib. Also Hyundai has gone a long way to show that this car has some potential. The engine and drivetrain layout have me very interested.

I saw the Genesis in person at the LA auto show last month and was impressed. It doesn't look like your typical Hyundai, and the interior looked pretty nice.

Only time will tell though, if it will be a lasting platform.

well the GEMA world engine is not bad... i will hit up some of my neon sites to gather more info as the caliber replaced the neon and the caliber is what has the GEMA...

the only thing that i wonder about is the SRT-4 caliber is a FWD vehicle...

so it makes me wonder how well the GEMA fits as a RWD engine...

Something tells me that Mitsubishi/Dodge had great success with the 'old school' 4G63 in variants of FWD and AWD cars......so I can't really see RWD being much of a science at this point, not to mention, the EVO X currently uses it as well in AWD fashion and that is pretty much RWD mounting characteristics anyways.
