  • High mileage car and seafoam

my beater/dd 1995 toyota avalon has 256,000 kms on it. oil change was done around 4000 kms ago and the oil still looks good ( full synthetic) , i recently googled seafoam since i saw it here and apparently it cleans up the inside of the engine.. should i use seafoam since my engine has 256k on it ?

    no.

the seafoam will clean all your carbon deposits out... in some cases, all that is sealing the rings is carbon. if the car runs fine, then just leave it.

if it aint broke dont fix it...

obiously what you are doing is working just fine...

1-2 times per year i will use the fuel system cleaners but thats it... once in spring and once just before winter...

if they work good if they dont i havent noticed any change in my DD

i have used seafoam many times on different cars and always had good results. i say do it but make sure u change ur oil after 100km. seafoam isnt ment to fix anything its to prolong the life of your engine.

I've used a carbon clean machine on my cars RB engine. It cleans injectors, cylinders, etc.

actually what i learned way back is to put in premium every now and then and wot on the engine , since its premium it burns better. btw how can i tell if its running rich?? my exhaust smells like gas a little bit. im thinking i shud clean out the o2 sensor??

Exhaust can smell of rotten eggs when o2 sensor is faulty and fuel economy is bad. Also the o2 sensor voltage slowly fluctuates and wants to sit on 14.7:1 most of the time at idle. At least that's what I noticed on my car.

Can't clean o2 sensor, you just replace it with a new o2 sensor every 60,000 kms. Change o2 sensor earlier if car has sat around for while (months) or have mostly done short trips.
