  • whistler BC life?

hey! so i had the worst weekend ever and have always dreamed of going biking at the whistler bike park some day. so today, while thinking about how im gonna have to quit my job as a truck driver due to a stupid idea resulting in me probly loosing my license, i thought, "instead of just going to whistler, why not move there?"

so heres my question: what is life like in whistler? is it awesome? is it crappy? is crime an issue? how is the weather? jobs? places to live? i wanna know anything!

    thanks!
    -Ben

expensive, crowded, lots of hot chicks, expensive and expensive.

but from what I've heard from otheres you'll have the time of your life.

also, if you plan to go there go NOW!.. once August rolls around it will be near impossible to find decent housing at a reasonable price. Find a job too that will keep you through the winter. Many places will pay for your lift pass too which is a plus.

      crime is not bad there.

Lots of STD's like any other ski town. Make sure you wrap it up.

It's quite fun...I've spent a few nights there this season. But I have worked at a big ski resort before...I found you really don't save any money because you spend it all on having fun. But it was a good experience

Exactly like Banff except not as crowded. And as Tokes said... STD's! Dong bags are a necessity

the manitoba skyline representation is a joke. i only know of a couple cool skyline owners here. i know theres more, but ive never met them. the majority of JDM owners here are bringing shame to us all. besides, i need to sell my skyline soonish.

the expense of living there is what im worried about. i do go to partys, but i dont drink, smoke, do drugs... any of that. i just party, and drive all my hammered friends home. i emailed the whistler mountain bike park asking about employment opportunities, cuz thats the dream. they said that by june the usualy have all their staff, so im kinda late. which i expected. and they have staff residence and tons of benefits so thats a bonus. maybe next year for me. mountain biking is my life. street, downhill, trials, dirt jumping.... i love it all. and i already work out doors and have good people skills. so this job would be perfect for me. one day lol.

ps: snowmobiling has been my real passion for many many years, so BC is my future lol.

well then you will want to stay away from whistler...

have you thought about the kootenays?

im located in Castlegar which is smack dab in the middle of the west kootenays... 45min drive in any direction there are ski hills which also act as mountbike paradises in the summer... there are trails here that have been built and look like some kind of ewok bike trail in the tree's... its absolutley beautiful out here... mountains everywhere, tons of summer stuff to do...

in the winter a couple of my friends are out sleding every single day after work... almost every truck out here will have 1-2 sleds on the back... there are as many places to go sledding in the winter as there are trails to mountain bike in the summer...

the west kootenays are about 7hours from vancouver, 4hours from kelowna and 6 hours from calgary... total population of the west kootenays is around 70,000... thats spread across a few cities/towns... its fairly quiet around here... and most of all its affordable

the only place ive been in BC is when i flew to kelowna and then drove to revelstoke for snowmobiling. it was the greatest experience of my life (and ive been on 3 cruises.... revelstoke still tops the list) and i cant wait to live in BC one day. only reason im wondering about whistler life is cuz i want to go to the mountain bike park, and possibly work there. they offer rooms for staff to. i dont want to live on the coast. im sure its nice, and i wouldnt mind living near it, but the mountains are more for me.
