There are plenty of racing pits out there, from milk crate and 2x4's to $30-50,000 full motion simulators. Like everything, you can do whatever you want with sufficient application of $$.

Sim racing is a pretty hardcore niche. There's plenty of prebuilt cockpits out there, generally the more you pay the better they are. I spent ~$500 on a racing chair from europe (it was only $300 but w/ shipping across the pond...) I dont mind blowing the cash and it meets my needs very well.

There's some advantages to sims - you can do it all year round for one. Most of you dont drive your skylines for like 6-8 months of the year. Its alot cheaper than actually tracking a car too. And nobody goes to the hospital or shopping for a new car when you screw up. Some people just arent computer guys tho, so I can understand its not for everybody.

There are no hardcore sims on any console. Computer gaming is where its at. Simmers have nothing but contempt for those who consider gran tourismo a good sim. Put them in the same category as those who consider Hondas fast cars.

Check out TheWayIPlay if you're interested in sim pits. Lotsa homebuilt ones there, as well as sections for the retail ones.

    http://forum.racesimcentral.com/ for the computer sims.

I'm just rocking a g25, an old computer desk, and a hardcore Ikea chair... and I can and do swap the shifter side to side

      g25 - $300

      desk from a garage sale - $10

      Ikea chair - $25

winning races against guys with thousand plus dollar set-ups - Priceless

I got a Ikea coffee table that I mount my steering wheel to. It kinda seems easier to just use the controller than the steering wheel thou. Then again I have a driving force wheel which has no shifter and locks differently then yours. Yours turns 2.5 times to a full lock like a real car, mine is like go kart...more touchy/responsive.
