  • Drove an amazing vehicle today.

Well my dads bud owns a unit complex in oakville and hes away in Italy and asked me to take care of it while he was away, so he left me his truck to drive 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 with the Cummins TD. I have never had so much fun with a truck in a single day in my entire life, and te smoke outs, well thats just a bonus, i think if I get a northern post with the OPP I will pick up one as a DD. And oh god does it have torque, a trailer with a car on it and it still burns out

    So that was my day

OMG!! is THAT truck ever running rich.Gale Banks (owner of Gale Banks Turbo systems) says that all that black smoke is just wasted fuel.Nice trucks though.

thats what happens when you fool the ECM by putting in one of those power boxes. just pissing diesel into the holes but not enough boost. Properly tuned diesel engine will still smoke but not as much as i see there for a stock looking truck.

Gotta love the spooling sound on those. I've only ever drove a 3500, but it was definitely fun. Would never own one. I'd rather get a Toyota Tundra TRD.

I watched a jacked up and bushed out 3500 with one of those power boxes DESTROY a really nice and fairly well done up FC. The FC took him on the line hard, but then all you could hear was that insane spool and then a HUGE column of black smoke. One of the funniest things I've ever seen.

i've got one in my Vdub diesel and i'll tell ya with power turned all the way up on the power box it smokes like a moth******* and it's to the point where if i run it like that it'll slip my clutch in seconds. Insane tonrque in that little 1.9 tdi.. still smokes most of the jacked up trucks and eat newer civics for breakfast off the line and highway while doing 50mpg's.

My Diesel knowledge is next to zero. But would you not have to run fairly rich due to the high compression + boost?

yes you got that rite. There's not much difference regarding to air/fuel mixture in gas or a deisel engine. But diesel isn't as volatile as gas so have to be very carefull with how much fuel you're dumping in. Diesel can actually create a hydraulic lock in the cylinder and can do nasty things. so basically upping the injection pressure helps better atmoization and upping the boost at the same time mes more sense.

when you see a tail of smoke behind a jacked up diesel truck. sure it looks cool but nasty for the engine. But diesel engines are built to take massive abuse.. its a shame we dont do much with diesels here in north america. Europeans have some 11 second 1.9Tdi engines.

I saw an interview with Gale Banks and he mentioned the excess fuel and a lack of air. He said one of the biggest fixes was a good intake system with a large intercooler.

A buddy of mine a few years back had an '01 3500 duelly built up. It had a compound twin turbo kit on it pushing 65 psi in to a 5.9L Cummins. He blew up 2 trannys and 3 diffs before it became reliable. On the dyno it made 430hp and 1150lbft of torque. He kept telling me about kill stories involving Vipers and Lambo's (he lives in Mission BC) and I took them with a grain of salt, untill he took me for a ride in it on a Fri nite going to cruise Robson.

Son-ofa-bitch that thing flew, for a 7500lb truck it was unholy to have that amount of thrust. Sure enough some bozo in a Viper saw him showing off and wanted a piece of him. That truck buried that GTS so fast it was stupid, we raced him about 4 times because the GTS driver just couldn't believe it.

I hazzard to guess that it would run toe to toe with my GTR on the street (if the truck was in 4WD).

the oldschool 911 turbos are incredible to drive.

Boost comes on like you got rear-ended.

Alot of the trucks can be fun too.. I got to tool around in an '05 ford with a chip, exhaust, etc for a few days and it was a blast.
