  • Anybody seen a 2JZ Tacoma swap?

Hey, I love all things straight 6 and the tacoma's one hell of a truck. I've heard of several Toyota Tacoma trucks that have a 2JZ engine swapped in. Does anybody know somebody who's done this, or have any knowledge on how good of a swap it is?
I've been brushing my teeth with jack but it's resulted in terrible amounts of tooth decay.

There's a rumor that someone in town (here) has one. Personally, I like the Tacoma as it is, however if you wanted to make bigger power (and no torque lol) then it would be ok. I'd feel better doing the Toyota supercharger on the factory engine.

I know it has been done. But I don't imagine it's an ideal swap. In a truck low end torque is what you want not a revhappy laggy top end motor. I agree that a supercharger on the stock motor would be the best option.

2JZ's don't have much of a problem making torque, even stock they produce 323lbs (JDM). Alot more than the Tacoma's ever came with. I would be worried about the driveline holding up to higher than stock 2J power levels, I would think that 400lbs tq would start breaking parts.

Rev happy would not be a term I would use describing a stock 2J, peak hp is at 5600rpm and torque is at 4000 rpm similar to the stock tacoma engines.

A supercharger consumes your torque curve so if anything it would lessen its ability to crawl at low engine speeds. Once you perform this mod, you would be close to the limits of the stock motor. A 2JZ could cost the same or more to swap but you would have a much higher celling for power levels.

What is your intent with this vehicle? DD or bush truck?

350 lbs @ 2000 rpm. If your looking for a diesel, its the best option forsure.

I'm pretty sure that torque isn't at 2000rpm like the oem engine, otherwise, an 800hp supra won't be faster than 12 seconds lol. Anyways, I guess you could try it. I for one am happy with my tacoma and the 270 torque it has. If I were to do a swap, it would be a turbo diesel. Small displacement Car engines don't go in trucks. The factory 4L is borderline small.

At least it's not like Nissan putting a small displacement truck engine in a sports car...

I've seen a few 2JZ Tacomas. It apparently isn't that bad of a swap. Needs some cutting to put an R154 or a V160 in there, but there is lots of room, because trucks tend to have that.

The stock 4.0l makes peak torque @ 3800rpm, only 200rpm lower than a 2J and the 2J makes 200lbs tq @ 2500-2700rpm. In the end it depends on the intent of the truck. If your towing, hauling or pulling stumps out of your front lawn go with a diesel. If this truck is going to dig out some mud holes 2J would be a great choice as it could flash the tires in a hurry (Diesels not so much) or make it 2wd and surprise some vette owners on the streets.

I had thought of doing this my self during the winter.

The reason, I have access to 2 90' 4X4 toyota truck with bad engine,
but good frame, and so so body. (for about FREE)

The engine is quite cheap at about 2k - 2.5k for the 2JZ (automatic),
because I had plan to use the stock toyota 5 spd. Basicaly, I just
had to cut both bell housing and weld them togeter. It's been done
quite a few time and it seam to work out good.

For me, it was about having some fun in the snow, and a vehicule with
a trunk for the odd parts I have to go pick up. But I'm slowly realising
that we need a 4 door truck, that can haul my projects around. Will
probably be looking in a 2002+ dodge ram next year.

I would still like to do it, but I have to start putting priority on the GTR.
Since I have put most of my time this summer on the girlfriend 240sx,
and still got to put that RB25DET in it. And I still got my own 240sx,
that I plan on dropping a cummings turbo diesel engine in, but that's
                        a whole other story. lol

Here is a couple of site with info for you :

86-95 Trucks & 4Runners - 2JZ-GE + turbo swap - Quit some time ago I got a 2JZ-GE from a Lexus as a replacement for my 7M-GE. Thinking this would be a easy swap cause I allready made everything fit for the 7M-GE. I could not have been more wrong. I have been prepping the engine for a year now (very limeted free time...

OK, So it is time to start another project. 1992 4runner, 3.0, 5-speed. I bought this about a month ago for $500 with a blown 3.0. I will be swapping a Toyota 2jzgte twin turbo 3.0 Supra engine into the runner. I was going to through a 3.4l in it but that would be too easy and everybody has one...

a couple of projects on suprachaged

And you could also consider the 7MGTE, it is by no mean a bad engine

Hope these site help you a little
