  • Saw someone die today.

Yeah was putting along the 401 on my way back from a call. Got further away and saw the fire in the rear view did not know what it was so kept on going then got this over the news
WHITBY — The eastbound lanes of Highway 401 in Whitby, Ont., have re-opened following a fiery fatal crash just before midnight.

Witnesses say a car was apparently driving in reverse on the highway when a tractor-trailer smashed into it at the Thickson Rd. exit.

The car burst into flames, and while a passenger was helped from the burning vehicle, the driver did not make it out and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The passenger is in hospital with life-threatening injuries,

The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.

    No names have been released.

Advise. DONT DRIVE IN REVERSE ON THE DEADLIEST HIGHWAY IN ONTARIO!

    Stay safe

Is it ok to do it on Highways in BC? Or just Ontario?

You would think people would have the general smarts not to do this. Personally I feel more for the truck driver who now has to deal with the fact that his tractor with him behind the wheel ended someone's life, even though it was not his fault.

Oh I'm sure they just missed their exit and thought it was a good idea to reverse. Hey idiot don't slam you brakes, don't swerve, and never back up!!!! You missed your exit deal with it. I even saw these two clowns stop in the middle of the 427 with their signal on to get their exit while traffic flew by at speed on both sides.

Sad to hear of a death on the 401 but I wouldn't say you saw someone die. You kinda saw the aftermath of the accident on the rearview mirror.

Seeing someone die in front of you is a totally different thing.

yeah i tend to agree. When u actually see the death happen.... it makes u rather sick.

either way still not a cool thing to see even if it is just the aftermath.

don't you mean the safest highway in ontario?

I am pretty sure that in terms of accidents per vehicle KM driven the 401 is safer than anything else?

yeah, you wouldnt believe how many crackheads I have seen reversing on the shoulder/slowlane because they missed their exit, OR reversing down the off ramp cause they took the wrong exit.

i was once on the highway and infront of me were at least hundreds of cars in all lanes reversing, so i did as well for a good km then started driving backwards. then we all cut throught the dirt to hop onto another highway, i still dont know why everyone did that.

Watch the TV show , " Canada's Worst Driver "

Those people are ridiculous. Guaranteed there are more drivers just like them because I know a few people that are as bad.

one of my cats died yesterday in my arms. it was hit by a car about 5 min before I got home from work and my dad brought it inside. I've never been this upset in my life. I feel on par with seeing a person die.

I'm amazed we don't read about this more often. I drive from Sauga to Pickering for work every day, and every day I will see some one cut at least 2 lanes trying to make the exit from say 401 to 427 west bound or like the 401 express to collectors west bound at dixie or 401 to 404 going east bound etc etc. And i mean ill see this at least once every day, I've seen people in the farthest left lane cut 4 lanes in a span of maybe 200 ft to make an exit in 100km/h traffic, as Ztuned said if you miss your exit you miss it... deal with it.

Ya I never swerve. If Im not gonna make it hit the next one and loop around. Not worth the careless charge, injury or possible death. Backing up or stopping is pure stupidity and natural selection if you ask me.
