I wouldn't goto TUNER shops to work for free... because when you're doing THAT level of bitch work, you need some money. But race teams are definitely worth it. At least they would cover your expenses for the weekend.

It's not hard to get your name out and meet people. Just really need to be shameless and not be afraid to walk right up to people and start selling yourself to them whether they like it or not.

i'm totally in love with drag racing. but i'd be happy with any kind of circuit racing as well. nascar not so much, but the rest of 'em hell yes!

i like that idea of volunteering. the motorsports season around here has kinda died off, but there's a shop nearby that i've been bugging for a job. i'll see if they'll let me help out a couple days a week just to learn.

any other tips are more than welcome guys! im not content doing oil changes and brake jobs on soccer moms' minivans, it's gotta be crazy cars or nothing

Do you have any mechanical knowledge/experience?
Everyone's gotta start somewhere, and if it takes wrenching on pieces of crap at a local oil-changers... it's better than nothing.

yeah, went to auto tech school, i've got about a year of experience in basic stuff like brakes, suspension, etc at regular shops. i've also learned a lot about aftermarket upgrades and some engine building from my skyline.
i'd be happy with a job or experience that i knew would get me closer to if not into a job in a tuner/racing shop or team.
