Hey if you buy a skyline the insurance is gonna be really high i know that but does that go for all JDM or is it just the skyline cause i saw a JDM RX-7 down the street from me for 4,000 and was wondering if i buy it ill be paying a ton for insurance?

Car + young male driver (this is an assumption) = high insurance premiums

Insurance will be expensive no matter what, even more so for a sports car.

True but what if the insurance is under my parents cause they said it would be cheeper for it to be under them cause my mom hasnt had an accident for like 10 years and shes 44 so my estimation for insurance is like $200-$400 a month under my parents but under me like $400-$600?

And i know "dont get a JDM for your first car" but its not my first car ive been learning how to drive stick since i was like 9.

Where you live, insurance will be cheaper then a LHD 240SX for a Skyline GT-R or GTS-t, and it will be cheaper then a LHD FD3S for a RHD FD3S.

For some reason, in Ontario especially, I've found that I can find pretty cheap insurance. I wouldn't be too worried about it, I think you would likely pay around 130/140ish for the car.

An FD3S is too much power for an inexperienced driver if you ask me. Start off with a Silvia S13 or something like that - EDIT: It seems like everyone else on the board is offering the same advice to you... I'd take it if I was in your position. You may have been learning how to drive stick since you were 9, but when were you put into a real world situation, on a public road with other drivers? I've known how to drive stick since I was 6, but everyday I gain experience from driving a damned minivan to work and back as a winter beater. It's your road manners, your respect for other drivers that make you a good driver, not the fact that you can press on a clutch and shift up a gear. Anyone could do that with some practice, but it takes years to learn the way around other drivers, because not all have the same level of experience (or inexperience) as you.

Owning a cool car doesn't make you cool, knowing how to drive makes you enviable, because now adays, there's alot of people that just plain don't know how to drive right.

A Prelude is LHD, a Sports Car, and a 2 door. Under Ontario Insurance, I'm pretty sure a Nissan Skyline GTS-t is allowed to fall under Economy Sedan class.

The reason you see so many people complaining here is because of ICBC, which rips the nutsack off of anyone who tries to insure their car with them. Most of the members here are from B.C.

Do what you want, but if you were a REAL experienced knowledgable individual, you would do your best to become a better driver before having a better car. It's as simple as going out and buying a beater 240SX for $1000, and using it for a year, and then selling it for $600 bucks at the end of the year. At least after that year, you'll be used to RWD, and familiar with using a stick in everyday road situations.

Then all your friends in their little V-Tec PreRudes can quibble and shake when you enter the room in an FD3S, because not only will you be an alright driver, but you'll be at least somewhat experienced enough to sit proudly in the drivers seat of that car, and call it your own without looking like a poseur.

Insurance is often based on accident rates and theft rates as well. I don't think there are high numbers of Skylines being stolen or in accidents since there aren't that many in Canada compared to USDM cars. But then again I haven't lived in Canada for 8 years, so I'm not really up to date on this stuff.

Im 17. I wanted a skyline. But i knew i didn't want one for my first car, cause i wasnt ready

Instead i bought a 1982 supra. Got use to RWD, stick, and RWD in winter

I sold that, had some cars in between, and i just sold my 1986.5 Toyota Supra.

All my cars were non turbo. But all of them were manual.

I have been driving for just over a year now.

I just put a down payment on my first skyline and will begin to drive it in the spring

I would say no to the rx7. For 4000 that is way to cheap. Just wait for FALCON to get on here, he will tell you. SOmething is wrong with it. It probably needs a rebuild.

Get a rwd, stick beater car.

                I pay 123 a month for insurance

Being a young(er) driver myself, I can agree with everything that has been said here already. In Alberta insurance is fairly cheap for myself... (20yr old, driving since 16... still got a GDL).

As a young kid (assumption) you will get pulled over a TON and your car will be scrutinized beyond your wildest dreams. You even so much as think about breaking road laws and you will be ticketed. You wanna go fast buy a beater and drive like a jackass, probably fly under the radar... Not with an RX7 or Skyline you won't, first chance they get you're going down.

You WILL make bad decisions in any car... Guaranteed. We have all been guilty of that choice at some point. But having an RX7 or GT-R makes these bad decisions reallllllly bad. Experience can prevent a bad decision from turning into a bad situation. As many have already said, it is not your ability to shift gears or your knowledge of street signs, but your ability to read into a situation that will save you... Something you can't do without lots of experience.

Probably the biggest concern of these forum members (including myself), we don't want "idiots" driving these cars. It makes the bad rep we have even worse. For every skyline that gets rolled, for every minivan T-boned by an RHD, we all feel the repercussions... So by driving an RX-7 or GT-R you represent those communities while you're behind the wheel.

I would love to see younger people such as yourself get these types of vehicles and drive them responsibly and prove to society that it really is possible for "kids" to respect these cars. Unfortunately this is rarely the case... Please, from myself and all members on this forum, be an example if you drive one of these cars. If not, don't get one.

                    Exactly.

The RHD situation is not doing the greatest right now as anyone can sell you, and like said above, any incident involving RHD, ads to the pile as to why they should ban them

To me, it seems like you want a RHD because of the cool factor, and that should never be the case. IF you want a RX7, buy a LHD one. If there were LHD skylines mass produced, I'm sure most of the people here would be driving one. They don't drive them because they are cool. They drive them because they love the cars.

Like said before. Experience makes a good driver a great driver.

We are not doubting your ability to drive a car. what-so-ever. But every once in a while, we get a GTR fanboy on here who wants one of these cars, without even knowing what they are cable of, or much knowledge about the car itself

Re think your decision, not only for all of use GTRCers, but for all the enthusiast of Japanese sports cars. We would love to have them in Canada for many years to come

A lot people just buy a skyline for the RHD factor. I can bet a RHD skyline would sell for a hell a lot more than a LHD drive one.

JDMfanboy which I hope get the whole RHD issue band in Canada is killing the scene.

man if you read wht i said before you would understand that i dont care if i look cool or not. i just want one and its not like im gonna be pushing RPMs and **** im just gonna drive, if anything a bit under the speed limit cause the last thing im doing is crashing a RX-7 or any car i get. + i see more RHD RX-7's than LHD but if i do find a LHD RX-7 im gonna go for that one over a RHD cause in a RHD its almost impossible to make a left hand turn in an intersection by yourself and without crashing or killing someone.

and im gonna be driving for a bit in my dads old honda to get used to shifting and to save up some more money for a rx-7 or the car i want.
