From trailers I've seen, the animation actually looked quite fluid, good use of face to show emotion, texturing is good -

Looks like alot of compositing has been used with that 3D.

Skyland TV series looked similar but more 2D looking (I think it's using 2D renderer for output) -

      RESPONSE MONSTER

The most epic signature ever "epic".

I've watched it twice now, and I still can't appreciate it. I realize it took a massive amount of money and resources to make, but the film and storyline itself (IMO) was "meh."

        Too predictable.

Would've been better with JJ Abrams at the helm.

          That's an interesting review.
bad animation ->Have you never seen any other CGI film to compare it to?
Hard to get into -> to each their own. Maybe Musicals are your thing.
Too far fetched -> No more than any fiction movie ever made. Only True stories for you:

So from what I can see your favorite movie is black and white, true story Musical?

HAHAHA nice! thats kinda what I was thinking when I read his gibberish too.. Seems pretty closed minded and didn't have one legit point to make. To each is own but I would rather people didn't feel like they have to make stuff up to sound like they're point is valid. If you don't like it just say "I saw it and it didn't do anything for me" or something honest

This movie was crap. I mean yes, the graphics are out-of-this-world amazing; collision detection between real and CGI is the best it's ever been. Flowing water, light effects, texture etc and on and on...all great. The military ships were friggin awesome.

But come on. The story was lame and predictable. 15 minutes into the movie, as soon as I found out buddy was going to "convince" the tribe to leave and become a part of them, I knew that he would become sympathetic to their ways, and turn to their side. It was just a matter of waiting out the THREE HOURS of my life sitting in the theatre.

The dialogue was not believable at all. I didn't care about any of the supporting characters, and I wanted to. They spent more time blowing us away with visuals than developing their already weak story.

Not to mention the ponytail penis things. Are they having sex with the horse things and the bird things and the trees? What the hell is going on?? Don't tell me you didn't think of that.

And what are we to take from this movie? To not destroy nature? Need I remind you that this was one of the most expensive movies of all time, spending upwards of $300 million to produce and promote. Ya don't think they maybe WASTED PRECIOUS RESOURCES making this trash? How about spending it on renewable energy research or whatever?

All in all, this movie was great for CGI advancements, but as far trying to capture characters and story in a believable way, it failed miserably. Flashing fancy shiny things in front of my face will only bore me unless I know or care about what's going on.

                    True, I see your point.

                    But...

It's a movie. They made it so they can make more money. If they make more than 300million, they achieved their purpose. I don't think James Cameron was planning to teach any lessons through this movie, nor did I expect a spectacular character development, moral lessons, story development, deep symbolism.

Hell, it's a movie about blue people in imaginary land, I didn't expect it to make much sense
                    anyways.

*edit* PS: South Park Season 13 episod: K.I.L.L. S.M.U.R.F.S summarized this movie perfectly.

Han doesn't die from ALL those bullets that were fired at him by the Yakuza members, but somehow one bullet hits his gas tank and he dies from that?!

The drift king falls off a cliff 300ft down and lands roof first and lives to regret his loss?

to not like a movie because of that is a bit ridiculous...every movie is predictable..whether you notice it 15 minutes in or at the end

Right, but we're talking about a crappy action movie that no one expects to be good, versus a widely-anticipated, extremely high-budget movie whose director has been heralded in the past for his screenplays (Aliens, T2, etc) and some great films. He hasn't come out with anything in the past few years, and Avatar's story is the best he can do.

The point is, FnF never takes itself seriously. We all know its a silly action series with cool cars and stereotyped characters, and we look forward to it. Avatar is trying to be as legitimate and believable as it can be through it's sci-fi/fantasy genre.

well, I thought it was awesome.

                                The storyline wasn't that bad.

And frankly, even if it was bad, I'd probably still go see it again, because the effects were just that good.

It's going to bring all the other movies made now to a whole new level. 3D kicks ass.
Bottom line is it was an exciting, good movie. who cares if the plot isn't perfect - almost no movies are.
