Hunter the p.allmountain is not a snigle speed quick tire change could be done if you want more street oriented tires, sasquatch was my first fr hardtail and i loved it took a lot of abuse and was a pleasure to ride.
Falcon The a-line is a nice bike only test rode it a little bit but the ride was nice on it if you can get it for a decent price it it would be a good bike, guy said the stanchions were replaced, if thats the one your looking at go check it out, straddle the front tire cycle the fork up and down a few times and check for any oil being left on the stancions , if there is the seals may not have been replaced with the new stancions and are leaking, just something to look out for.

im also 6ft tall maybe a bit over, i havent rode in a good 2-3 years (not my own bike anyways) and a 17" frame would most likeley fit you best, i never went anything over a medium, large frames felt like crap. trying to do anything on them was near impossible.
i reconmend the older shores, i can vouche for them. they are amazing all around bikes. i had a rockhopper way back in the day, wasnt "stock" and it was an o4 i beleive but the right parts on the right bike can make any bike perform way better.
kona stinky are really heavey bulky bikes.
just my .02 i havent been into riding for a long time but i would still with a older shore. it would make you the most happy.

There are quite a few shores for sale. What years should I be looking at? And what about a Norco Six One.
I think I want something with two front gears which IIRC the six one has. So I can pedal up fromme without killing myself. I'll be doing a fair bit of shuttling but with some days out peddling.

Falcon the a line is more of a park bike, ride lifts up, ride down, Hence he single ring up front, most shore bikes you'll find have 2 rings up front and a bash guard, DH race bikes usually have 3.
If your looking at the shores last 3-4 years would be a good starting point, they hold up well when properly maintained just like anything else, always check for oil on the stanchions.

Where did you get the "DH race bikes usually have 3"? They are meant to pin it down hill, definitely do not need the option of changing in to anything smaller than 34 tooth. I competed DH and most racers run one gear of preference. 32 tooth to 48 tooth depending on track style.
FYI I rode all three mountains w/ one 34 tooth on front and had no troubles. If I were to ride up a long steep hill such as the cardiac hill I'd have two rings, max.
3 rings are more for XC and road. Kind of phasing out of MTB due to huge diversities and purpose-designed bikes. 2 rings max.
falcon, I'd look for a Shore that is newer than 2007. Huge changes happened in 2008/9 for Norco's design and manufacturing. Prior to that, they were just kind of ******* the dog in terms of R&D. (I had 5 Norco bikes: 3 FSR design and 2 Hardtails)
