Now I don't normally vent but I thought I would share this with people as it pisses me off to no end when people do this.
You see this is the basis for my rant, A good friend of mine and her boyfriend also a good friend of mine are moving, they are moving to an apartment to better suite there needs, now they had everything coming together, got out of there lease and ready to get the ball moving as they have to be out by august 1st. Now she talks to 3-4 of her friends along with myself about helping her move. 1 person she asked is also a good friend of mine, she asks us both at the same time, he said he would be free to help her out on Saturday without issue, so she booked the elevator at her apartment for 1-3pm. I tell her I work (she knows my schedule cant change as I am stuck in my position with school and need the job to pay for it) But since my job is mobile, if there were no alarms or emergencies I would come down and help them move the sofas, and so forth since the heaviest objects being there were only 3 guys attending. She said if I could make it fine.
Fast forward to tonight, I call my buddy to see if he wants to do anything tonight, he says no he is heading out of town. I thought oh okay. So I get a text from the girl later saying everyone bailed on helping her and now her and her boyfriend have to move there entire apartment alone. Great. I tell her I will come down during work and help her move the heavy stuff first with her B/F and they could take care of the rest.
Now my problem is does no ones word mean anything to them anymore? Is it so hard to say something and tell someone that you will do something and actually do it? Like I understand that things come up etc, but all these people flopped to go out drinking and to parties etc. Like okay I know, long weekend, but if you know this why say you will be there and then back out? I think its better to say no I cant do it then filling someone with false hope and leaving them hanging.
When I was young and even now the only thing anyone has is there word, it is extremely valuable and I believe when someone gives you there word by promising to do something I take it very seriously. And breaking that word should be done properly, not just on the last minute because you don't want to, because if you did not want to, should not have given it in the first place. Now if I tell someone I give you my word, I will fulfill that promise because to give them my word I made sure I could do it. The only reason I would not fulfill my word if I was involved in something serious that popped up, illness, injury etc.
It just drives me nuts and people do it all the time.
Thats my rant. People keep your words and if you cant then don't offer it.
