only recently started watching the v8 supercar series... these guys are insane! only wish there was some more coverage out here.
edit:
well after watching the video i realized it reminded me of another battle i saw.
Porsche vs Corvette at Mazda Laguna Seca.
this is a truly epic battle between two drivers that get very messy at the end.

Damn, even though I don't follow V8 Supercars as much as I would like to, I was rooting for Van Giesberger in that one. Whincup should not have been allowed to get away with defending by cutting the chicane, but apparently Van Giesberger had done it twice earlier in the race too. It's a tough call though, Van Giesberger did close him out and give him no other option but to cut, however if Whincup was defeated enough to give Van Giesberger space to take the better line then IMO he should have stayed defeated.
It was a similar situation in that Corvette vs. Porsche battle at Laguna Seca, the Corvette had no chance at passing without hitting the Porsche so he should have let it go, but on the other hand the Porsche should not have had to hit back if he were faster at the exit.
Truly fantastic racing in both videos and I really respect the defenders in both situations who manage to keep their cool even with all the pressure and contact. Its an aspect of sports car racing that you just don't get in either Nascar or F1. That's why I love watching BTCC, WTCC, and FIA GT1 and GT3 series, there is just so much more constant action and not just a battle of who has the best car setup.

The Gold Coast battle was nice, the Laguna one got way out of hand.
I personally think the Porsche over did it. The Porsche drew first blood @7:40 coming out the turn and drove the Corvette into the sand pit. That's probably why the Corvette bumped him in the last turn, but then he had to drive him into a wall?

just a little bump for such an epic race.
currently watching the speed tv highlights from the supercar v8's at gold coast... so much carnage at that track, i now realize how skilled and patient these two drivers really were.Automotive photos from around the Pacific North West.

It's more like Holden (GM engine and I think Holden is now owned by GM) vs Ford. Also I think they had Indy car drivers like Scott Dixon, etc racing those cars. Even they seem to struggle with those cars.
