  • P90X Users?

    Hey guys,

So I was wondering if anyone on here has used P90X? I'm thinking of picking it up, and I'm curious what you think about it and if it's worth it. Went for a bit of a work out the other day and realized I'm definitely not in the shape I was in last year when I quit playing paintball. Wanna get fit again and this seems like a pretty decent system.

    Thoughts?

Very cardio and core intensive; sounds like it's what you're looking for if you want lean mass. I haven't used it because I'm going to a gym for mass but I might have to try it this summer since I want to save money and work the core.

Very good stuff, I got it and using it. I am skinny by nature, so not much weight loss here, but very good more core training.

I have it and it seems to be a good program. I have done more of a detox..... No pop, chocolate or any fatty foods and now that it's done I am moving onto start the training. This is good for definition and you can also get mass out of it by using bigger weights when you work out with certain exercises. I say pick it up!

Workout programs for the most part are a sham (sorry to say). You wanna trim up and get in shape, hour of cardio a day + gym. 3 on 1 off, 2 on 1 off for a total of 5 days a week. You'll feel better in a week, you'll see results in about 2-3 weeks depending on your body and you can eat whatever you like as long as you can keep carbs down... Workout programs are a reasonable solution for those with no gym access, but if you want real results you need to go to a gym or have similar equipment available. If you just wanna stay healthy go for a walk a day, if you wanna get fit and size up, gym is the only option. Have a few really awesome workout plans I can share with you if you decide to go the gym route

I thought P90X was okay. I did only the exercises and didn't follow the diet regime, which is at least 50% of the importance. I found the schedule was just too heavy. I didn't have 90 minutes free 6 days a week to keep up with it was my problem.

I do the Ab ripper X 2-3 times a week and I go to the gym. Eat right, drink water and don't be scared of doing any type on exercice. Just taking walks on your snow suit or snow showing (Hardcore!!! Try running for 30 sec. lol) It all helps. Protein shakes (Vanila w/pineapple and frozen berries) is very good for 7-8 PM when the effing TV shows all those fastfood ads lol. Try to get your calories from Protein and Carbs, you still need fat but there's some everywhere.
                Have fun.

Have to disagree with "you need the gym part". Only thing you need is elastic bands, running shoes and eating right.

Just saying it's not a necessity.

                  Alex Kovalev only uses elastics...

Thanks for the input, guys! I'm pretty skinny by nature as well, and I've realized what a year of doing basically nothing has done to me. Physically, I look the same, but I don't feel as good as I did, and I've noticed my stamina has gone WAY down and I'm not as strong as I was, which made me vaguely sad. I've cut back on the pop/junk food lately, and I've been trying to eat healthier. Now to just get back in shape! I have a home gym of sorts (weight machine + treadmill) that I've been using more, but I've heard some good things on this program as well. So I've figured I'd like to give it a go.

Hozer, if you wouldn't mind hitting me up with that routine, I'd definitely like to check that out!

Professional athlete and a normal person are two completely different scopes. Someone that gets paid millions doesn't need any more motivation to workout so elastics work. elastics will not get you into shape though... Great for maintaining shape but not getting it

The "need gym" part is mainly due to motivation, most people will not maintain a "self-routine" in home. It becomes to easy to skip and is of no inconvenience to do so. When you pay for a gym you use it... So yes I agree, you don't need a gym, but most people need something to actually keep them working out and paying for a gym is one of the best.

P90x is quite good for cardio.

Me and some friends used to do stronglifts 5x5 when we started strength training: http://stronglifts.com/stronglifts-5...ining-program/

The key is to find a routine that works for you and that you enjoy. If you don't like it, chances are you will eventually quit/slack off lol

Different routines for different people and purposes of course. Some people find working out at home to be very effective, others need the gym to stay focused and motivated.

Don't forget, a very important part of working out is diet.

Snake who did you used to play paintball for/ what level?

And for what your looking to do, honestly, diet should be your main focus. Eating healthy balanced meals keep away fromt he refined carbs/ sugar and try to eat complex carbs... and lots of cardio.

Cardio is the best type of exercise you can do, if you want to tone up use your own body weight. I used to do heavy lifting 3 days on 1 day off, 2 days on 1 day off. and unless you are building muscle for the abuse endured in a long season of any sport, you don't need to use heavy weight.

So I think what you need is:

                            Diet
                            Cardio
                            Body weight/ light weights.

100% agreement with the notion diet is #1.
Follow this, more or less, and you will see the biggest improvement.

then excersize.... A similar but much more flexible 'system' of sorts to P90X is crossfit, I've been following these guys for a while either directly or using it as a suggestion box of sorts.
Works quite well for overall fitness, ie, flexibility, strength, and endurance

                              best of luck
