Not a skyline, but in my gc8 I threw a sub in just for some extra kick.

Paid $100 for a kicker sub and ported box, $90 for a used Alpine m500 amp, and $40 for a wiring kit. Doesn't weigh much either. Plan to transfer it to whatever car I buy in the future (gtr/supra). Cheap, works good, and if something goes not a single **** will be given.

      lol quad!

Yeah im with you Chris, I don't like subs at all to be hoenst, they are usually messy, ugly and sound like ****.

I loved my stock sub from infinity in my 06 ralliart, but the standard basslink system sold by infinity sucks, so small sub is all i can do.

I listen to mostly heavy bass music, so it's not fun listening to it without heavy bass. With this set up im looking to:

      a) Save on space (compared to most systems)
      b) have it looking clean, simple and tidy in the trunk
      c) have bass in my music without crazy amounts of whomping making my trunk rattle (so i'll run low gain and boost)

unless you picked up a box thats for like a s10 where its super skinny then you wont be saving lots of space. my box isnt that big and it takes up a fair bit of room.

also cshepp try out a sub with rock music you wont get tons of bass as you would with say hip hop but you still get a nice deep sound that gives a good back bone to the music.

i love my setup: 10" kicker l5 with rockford amp.
panasonic dual din touch screen deck.
        and panasonic speakers and tweeters.

i plan to upgrade the speakers because i havent touched them yet but thats what the previous owner had in it

yeah my box is small, .65 cubed feet.

the s10 boxes suck, they are shallow but really long. and because i have my battery in my trunk, that doesn't work for me. If i didn't have my battery back there then one of those boxes would be perfect for accross the back seat.

Also after using both, i think sound coming from a sealed box is much better than a ported box. more clean and crisp. I went with a sealed box this time, which also helps in the space cetegory.

no way a ported box is athousand times better then sealed and also a box made by visions or yourself is way better then the bassworxs boxs. i have compared both box with the exact same sub and everything and one made by the guys at the store gives off more bass and a better sound. a ported box will give better air flow and gives a bit of echo that will give a better lower bass sound

lol not a chance, you don't have your sub matched to the right subed footage.

And like i said in the post before, im not looking for echo...im looking for small crisp bass!

I'm by no means a audiophile, but I love my Infinity Basslink. It's small, light, easy to remove for track days and gives me all the bass I care to have in my cars. I really like the remote gain adjustment knob too, I hate fiddling with my head unit so a simple knob to control my bass appeals to me.

I was really interested in them, but the reviews on line were mostly poor so i didn't want to chance it!

exactly trav, you have compared....just because it sounds good to your ear, doesn't mean it sounds good to everyone else's ears. And if by professional you are referring to people who go into competitions with bass obviously they will recommend ported because it makes more sound.

I with you Anthony, I love and listen to many different genre's of music (mostly classic rock and blues) and nothing beats a (or pair of) good 10('s) in a sealed box for sound quality.

Travis, what kind of professional? SPL competitor (will tell you ported), SQ competitor (majority will steer you to sealed) or Sales? Most (almost all) sales staff I've dealt with always asked what music I listened to the most and usually asked me to bring in my personal music to help me decide what sounded best for me. Even had one guy load up a couple different boxes with different subs to test in my car!

Subs also don't have to be matched to an exact box or port size. Box and port sizes can be tuned to get a subs sound optimized at certain frequencies.

Also some subs that sound like crap in one box may sound good in another. My buddy had the same subs as me in a ported box, his was louder and deeper on a smaller amp, but sounded muddy with some light flutter. Mine were quieter, but tight and punchy.

i have talked to many sales guy and also guys that have been installing and building systems and have gotten that ported is the way they mostly go it does depend on the sub and amp combo you have thou. you can have a shitty type e sub with a high deff amp and it will out perform many subs just because a 1500 high deff amp is better quality
