  • Want to Know... The Complete Guide to getting into Karting (Ideally In Ontario).

    Hello All,

I originally wanted to import a 33gtr spec'd out for circuit (track days etc). However, there really isnt room for these cars and i want that hard racing feel. If anyone has experience and is willing to speak with me about it i would appreciate it. In thread or pm its all good. thanks

I started competing in the arrive and drive series last year. There are quite a few places that do this but the three best, and almost equal seemed like the following:

        1) Goodwood Kartways:

        2) Erbsville Kartways:

        3) Mosport Karting:

I researched all three and all three seemed very very similar. The prices were all pretty much identical. I went with Erbsville. The reason was that I had another friend wanting to do the same but he lived in London while I live in Mississauga. This place seemed ideal because it was exactly in the middle of both of us so he wouldn't have to travel over 2 hours.

Anyway, The season started and I went to the races. Personally I really DID NOT like it. The track was good but it was kind of short. The karts were never equal, there was one kart that was constantly faster then the rest, they atleast changed the numbers of the kart each race so it would be random who got it. Some of the other competitors were nice but some of them took this WAAAAAAAAAAY to seriously and sulked and such when they didn't win. There was no medal ceremonies. The organizers seemed completely not knowledgeable. Overall it was bad experience and over the season I went to fewer and fewer races until I dropped out maybe 3 or 4 races early.

This year I signed up for the Goodwood series. I told my self I wanted to try all three before continually picking one. Anyway, I went to the place to check it out. These guys seemed a LOT more professional. The karts seemed a lot better but I haven't driven one yet, they had different types of races (sprint, endurance, etc), they have a podium right beside the track and they said they do medal ceremonies each race, just the overall atmosphere was a lot better. They are even offering 4 scholarships to a pro karting school to the winner in each class, which btw is AWESOME! My schedule starts may first so I cannot wait

Next year I will be trying Mosport, they look like they have the best track.

Like pretty much any competitive motor sport, most off stops when it's time to race though.
