  • MPI Fail!

Sooo i was running an errand at work and listening to the radio, and too my delight i heard that I should be getting money back that shouldn't have been spent in the first place!

Just after Christmas time, there was -I have no clue why- an uproar from the people of manitoba wanting to see MPI's books because there was criticism that MPI was charging unfair rates.

The CEO of MPI came on tv and in the newspaper stating that she assured everyone that MPI was charging the most fair and competitive rates possible...Well apparently she was lying through her teeth!

MPI now has to pay back 45% of insurance premiums for 2009 and 2010 for over charging on rates.

They are pretty well known for over charging, and people usually get back around 10% a year but this is a pretty bad screw up. They said on the radio the mess up is costing them over $230 million haha!

because you guys have beautiful private insurance in ontario...i know it's not working out for skyline owners right now, but a monopoly (like MPI) is never a good thing in business ever. They had a 230 mil more than they needed in their surplus and they were just gonna sit on it.

with private insurance things are much more competative and this kind of thing doesn't happen (to the best of my knowledge). If it did, people would simply go to the next insurance company. Where as here we need an outside source to come in and call taboo.

yeah i know I meant why cant we have a surplus like this...while I like the idea of privatization for the most part, I cant stand the rates that we have for RHDs. I wish it wasnt illegal/frowned upon to plate our cars in other provinces (ie. selling to a buddy, registering as a secondary driver (dont know if out of province drivers can be insured as a secondary...))

It's about time someone looked into mpi's work. I personally think it is a crock of **** that they can charge us more a yr for our insurance AND our drivers license for every accident/ticket you get. Iv seen a guy In a built z32 get ticketed for his plate being bent because his car was lowered and it coated him $400 plus 3 demerits which turns into something like a 5% increase on insurance AND having to pay more to renew your license. I have another friend that was involved in 2 50% accidents and they upped his insurance rates by 15-20% can't remember and charged him $1000 to renew his license ( for reference and bran new driver with no merits/demerits pays $65)..... I was so pleased when I heard this yesterday maybe now they will be a little less harsh on rhd's because they'll need as many cars insured as possible to re-coupe they're losses.
