Fiat mirafiori 2ltr twin cam engine , putting a new cam belt on for client , lined up marks and installed cam belt , put the rest of the stuff back together car had a bad battery so we were lazy and tried to tow start it with a renault 12. turns out cams were int he wrong positions and the valves put holes in 2 of the pistons. On further examination it turns out some cleverdick had center punched more marks on the cam wheels (why, i dont know) and i lined up the cams using the wrong marks . Luckily the new belt stripped all the teeth off itself so i blamed a faulty belt for the destruction , my boss screamed at the fiat dealership and they agreed to refresh the engine for free

Got New to me Rims for my GTS-T.

Bolted them on, checked all the bolts.. went to pull it out of the garage.. didnt move.... more gas, moved but made a terrible sound..

I topped my oil up last year between runs up Knox Mountain for the hill climb. I forgot to put my oil cap back on and did a run up the hill. My engine bay was covered in oil and the engine was almost dry.

Imagine 2 minutes of WOT... uphill in a turbo 1.6L miata with no oil cap... :P

Drove to Lordco, got a new cap and oil... and finished the weekend...

89 dodge truck, changed the drive shaft in the driveway. I did a "dry fit" and then started the truck and backed out on the road. Slammed it into drive to do a burn out, the bolts on the rear end of the drive shaft we not tight, the bolts shered off, the drive shaft spun and hit a pothole and bent 90degrees. It tore a hole in the pan and chopped off the brake and gas lines, which cause a little fire...... Hahaha then my buddy, being a good friend, grabbed his camera and started taking a video of me jumping up and down screaming at the truck and some punk who "rolled up" in a civic honking his horn.

Put out the fire and got the truck fixed up that night. So the next morning I tool the truck Down the road and realized I didn't put any brake fluid back in. Truck went in a ditch and to my surprise, my friend was behind me in his car with his trustey video camera laughing at me.

In my GT-R, I washed my engine bay with the pressure washer. I tried hard to avoid any electrical stuff, air intake and coil cover. Took her for a drive and 10 minutes later the oil pressure light came on. I had to replace that sensor! 13000 yen down the drain and a pissed off wife!

In my very first car, a 1986 Olds Calais Supreme with a 3.0L V6. The serpentine belt was squeaking a lot. Went to Crappy Tire and bought a spray to put on the belt, specially made to stop the squeaking noise and also to keep the belt from slipping. I sprayed it on, start the car and first thing that happened, is the Belt slipping and falling off the pulleys!

When I was just starting out I was feeling very proud of myself for changing my own oil and filter. Drained oil and replaced filter, and then goes in the new oil .... well sorta, it's a good thing I stopped about 5 times just as i'm about to pour it in, saying to myself "the new oil can't possibly go into the dipstick hole", just didn't seem right. Thankfully i figured that one out.

One I still do but am carefull about is power washing the engine bay. Like everyone you try to avoid the obviious things, but is it really the smartest thing to be doing ?

Fixing the trans control module for my automatic honda, its positioned under the floor pan on the passenger side, not the easiest to get to. at -15 in my driveway with snow coming down, i got it out and did what needed to be done, but when putting it back in, I put the connection in funny cause i was frozen, and bent one of the metal connection prongs. it was touching another one beside it. didnt know that at the time. it wouldnt start after that, I had no idea, ended up having to get it towed 40kms to my shop...such a waste.

lesson learned, do winter work in the garage.

edit: when it gets below -10, my TCM freezes and locks the transmission in 2nd gear. I have to pull the computer out and clean it every winter...not fun!

Another one to add... Using air-tools to bolt/remove bolts I should ratchet (pure laziness). Stripped front seat mount hole and had to re-tap it, PITA
