  • Going to Europe in 3 weeks, where should I go?

So on a pretty spur of the moment decision, I am going on a trip. So far the details include a Eurail Pass and a flight to Frankfurt. There are a few places I'd like to see like Munich, Venice, Zurich, Prague, Amsterdam, Paris... but I'm open to ideas. Oktoberfest here I come.

    Let me have it.

If you get a chance, see Berlin, lots to see/do there. Munich is great, go see Neuschwanstein Castle if you can. Most of Europe is really nice, can't really go worng anywhere. Beautiful countryside everywhere. What sort of stuff are you interested in? I also liked Poland, Belgium, France and England. If you are in the Belgium/france border area I would highly recommend Vimy Ridge. Switzerland is beautiful too.

To be honest I don't really know. I want to see the culture more than "places"... a large part of the trip will be Germany as that is my heritage and I want to see as much of it as I can. I'll be starting in Frankfurt, hopefully hopping to Munich and possibly Berlin. Jump over to Austria and perhaps Zurich, then coast along the Mediterranean (Marseilles, Venice..) then up the west side to Paris, Amsterdam and perhaps finish in Copenhagen. I'll be passing right through where the disneyland castle is so I will check it out ... (Neuschwanstein)...

I'm also considering joining a tour from Contiki or something for a few weeks and then explore after.

I am saving right now to rent a car to lap the ring a few times... :P

Sucks there are no more EU F1 races. I may want to go to the Ferarri factory, and perhaps the Porsche one as well.

So I think I've decided to go on this tour... http://ca.contiki.com/destinations/e...european-vista

          It's on sale... lol

Then afterwards travel for a week or so around Germany (Berlin, Munich for Oktoberfest) VIA rail. And perhaps hit up a few places that I went on the tour that I wished I had spent a bit more time in.

              Ahhh home

Southwest England and learn to surf Cornwall , you'll get the autumn storms on fistral beach , croyde bay and woolacombe. , Buckingham Palace in London , shark fishing out of Looe Harbour (day trip) , Visit the city of Bath and go and bathe in the original Roman baths ( it's pretty awesome)

Go to poland and visit Auschwitz, you'll never be the same again

Avoid Venice , it's a dump , 25% of all visitors throw up when they exit the coach for the first time ( think street sewage )

Go to Paris and check out the EIffel tower and experience the french style of driving (don't drive yourself)

Rhine valley of germany , Burgen Fish market ( it's massive and i swear un-discovered species fromt he deep show up there each week), Berlin is awesome .

Go to Amsterdam and choose from a selection of dope in the resturamt you just finished your meal at

Lots of other places i could recommend too

Ohh if you get the chance and have the time, go to Prague in the Czech Republic , it's an amazing city for old architecture, not really Europe though .

catch a hovercraft from Calai to dover , only takes 20 minutes to cross the English channel and it's fun ( or catch the hydroplane boat if you can afford it and the sea isn't rough ).

I am starting off the trip with a short tour from gap adventures. Paris - Bruges - Amsterdam - Berlin - Krakow and finishing in Prauge. After than I plan to fly to Bergen, Norway and take the train to Oslo (reportedly one of the best train rides in Europe). From there I will stay in Copenhagen a bit and then work my way down Germany stopping in Hamburg to visit relatives. Going to go down the west side, and I already booked a car for the Ring. I am going to go down the Rhine. MANY people have told me to do this and explore the Black Forest Region so that's a must. After that I want to go to Austria (Hallstatt), Switzerland (Alps), perhaps Chaminoux, France and then work my way across the South of France to Spain. Stay in Barcelona and then finish the trip with a visit to Portugal. Then fly from Portugal to London for my return flight.

Overall I think I will have more fun staying in smaller towns than the big obvious tourist trap cities.

That's the tentative plan so far. I'm leaving on the 22nd and my tour is 12 days. My return flight is November 24th but I left it open so I can always change it. I have a 15 day Eurail flexpass good for 2 months.

Should be fun. Got a new backpack yesterday (Osprey Waypoint 65) and a bunch of clothes.
