I'm all for proper parameters. In Ontario they can give you a ticket for loudness which is completely the officers opinion. So no matter how loud or quiet it is you can get a ticket.
In Japan there is a specific db level that is the max, and officers have a decibel reader. Makes it very easy for people to make sure their cars conform to the applicable laws since both the police and the drivers know what is right and what is wrong.
When it comes to all of this Vehicle inspections bull ish, one of the things that everyone gets on thier inspection tickets is "strait through muffler"
There is no set decible level in manitoba for cars, only for motorcycles. As well, we don't have emissions testing here.
So what frustrates me the most is: If there is no legal descible limit, than I don't need the "required" baffled muffler for sound. And if there is no emisions testing, than I don't need the "required" baffled muffler for emissions.
So what the hell do I need a baffled muffler for than at all?!?!?!?
Prove that the noise came from the vehicle and not any surrounding variable. Shouldn't be hard to fight at all. much easier than an officer identifying that your vehicle is "loud"

It's not a matter of being "easy to prove" in court, but rather a waste of time and headache for not having to go through that process anyhow. Imagine how faulty it could be as previously mentioned and a woman driving a stock Camry got ticketed?
Sure, she can go to court and say "my car is all factory and just a family sedan", but why did she have to go through that?
I have always wondered why nobody sabotages these things? I mean people go around spraypainting everything, smashing glass on the bus shelters... Why has nobody messed with these cameras? I get the fine yes... but i don't imagine it to be too difficult to get away with it

Seems like it's geared towards those terrible Harley's being piloted by renegade accountants. I'd have a problem with the idea, except sitting next to a piped Harley or similar in traffic is terrible. Said renegade accountants keep cracking the throttle constantly at a stand still. Makes your ears bleed.
Skylines aren't very loud by comparison, turbos do a fantastic job as a muffler

When the speed traps first started coming out, someone placed a box wrapped in christmas wrapping paper over one of the cameras here and it stayed on for like 3 months before someone realised it was being covered lol.

"The Noise Snare was originally invented by Mark Nesdoly after a motorcycle woke up his daughter one evening, and the system seems to be geared toward targeting loud bikes."
m13 is right, its just another cash grab for our poorly run government. Canada is getting worse and worse. Were getting F'd in the A everytime we turn around. So people are going to shell out $200 if this thing thinks your exhaust is too loud? Whats the db limit? How do we get ticketed for an infraction with such a grey area? A better question is, why are we taking it? Boo-hoo this guys daughter got woken up by a bike, loud pipes save lives. If i see one of these p.o.s. In my city im gonna stuff it full of socks!
I canz take this corner at 195k cause i gots AWDZ. Get real.
Why didnt they invent a camera to ticket old poeple and women driver? Street would be safe. Don't tell me a car with a loud exhaust cruising downtown will cause chaos. Complain come from poeple who cant stand to let other live and want everything there way. On the other end , kid reving with straight pipe is annoying. That should be an offense
