Okay well this is not so obvious to me since compared to most of you, I'm still a newb (haven't been on this site even a year) but I keep hearin the whole "this forum isn't what it used to be" speech...can someone explain what made this forum more enjoyable before?
I am more than willing to share knowledge if it is there. I know I had a rough start with these and maybe helping someone else it would make it all a little more worth it. Unfortunately with the way the community has gone and the passion I have lost for these cars during a few mishaps I no longer believe this is my place.
Miss driving sooooo bad! Need to get a car on the road ASAP!

I'm really sorry to hear that man. Maybe the day the R34's become available in Canada will change your mind and you'll come back to the Skyline scene. Either way all the best whatever route you go

For the last 4 years all my funds went to my car and they always will because a car will always supply me with enjoyment! I appreciate every bit of these cars and once the 34 gets here I will no longer buy any other toys

All in context of cschepp owning an R34 said no more than a month or too ago... If a forum with a few idiots out of a bunch of awesome guys can deter you from a passion like what you said you have, I genuinely pity you.

If you don't like it here, don't come and if it makes you hate something you have demonstrated a lifelong passion for, you are a sad individual.

And I only say this because of the passion you had cschepp.. I'm genuinely curious as to how such a passionate individual can be deterred from a dream by the fools of the internet?

          Skyline scene is dead.

90% of the OG's have sold their skyline and has moved on.

          RIP Canadian Skyline Scene 2010.

The forums are what you make it. This is a clean sheet of paper, always has been.

The admin crew since day 1 has always wanted this place to be a clearinghouse of information to be shared with an enthusiast community. People come and go, move into other cars. It's a fact of life. We can't all be in Skylines forever or even RHD for that matter. It has always been a delicate balance to allow freedom of speech while respecting those around you. Before you lament the death of the Skyline scene in Canada, look at yourself to see what you have done to contribute. Have you been positive in your posts and supportive of others or have you come here to sneer and make derogatory/inflammatory remarks? Those who have been banned have imploded by their own hand, often with A LOT of warnings which were ignored. Unlike what people here might ASSUME, the mods take banning very seriously and do it as the absolute final option. We are volunteers and use a lot of time to try and hear both sides of the story. We know losing a popular member here affects the morale. It's never an easy decision.

There's mention of the Suby community. Well, I'm also on other forums for cars I own outside of GTRs. Another car community I visit regularly is very mature, tight, and every one respects the opinion and contribution of others. One other refreshing aspect of it is that they never gang up on the admin or mods of the site (in fact they instantly jump to the mods defense when someone acts out of line). Why can't GTRC be like that? It used to be very much so when it started in 2004. It all starts with YOU. In a community as small as ours here where a lot of us actually know the other person as a real person and not as a username, with such a limited base and especially with such a looming common "opponent" (aka the government and the insurance industry...especially in Ontario), I'm shocked and appalled at how low some people can stoop to chew another fellow enthusiast out. A good rule of thumb is if you cannot say to his/her face what you just wrote, you shouldn't post it here. Misunderstanding? Use all the emoticons at your disposal.

Anyway, I wish with the coming new year everyone can take some time off, recharge and return to GTRC with a breath of fresh air and help one another out. This place has a lot more building blocks to stand on compared to when we were a mailing list. Instead of crying over how much you don't want to be here anymore, just do your part and help make something of GTRC. We are really, REALLY lucky to be able to have these cars here. I'm counting down the days to 2014 when I can bring in a 34 but a small part of me is afraid there won't be RHDs importable by then. Until then I am happy with my car and what I gleam from this site every day.

I take a lot of comfort in the fact this year's SkyMeet rocked...because we were all able to meet, shake hands and know each other as actual humans. The GTRC Facebook page is also awesome...again, because our real names are shown and we're not hiding behind an account. These facts are not coincidental.

See you all at SkyMeet 2012. I'll buy a round for everyone, mark my words.

Very well said JZ, this community is exactly that, what you make of it.
I have some plans in the works to improve the GTRC structure over the winter, some changes have already been implemented, but not released as of yet.
I'm hoping that these improvements will give GTRCers more input and power to form what this site will become.
Let's all take a deep breath, batten down for the winter, and not get too grumpy.
