So I dragged my roommate out and we drove 6 hours to go pick up this wagon. The car was in fantastic shape, interior was clean, outside was decent. Drove around the block and it seemed like a solid car, I was really excited to own it. Sign the papers and head back to the highway. In about 5 minutes of highway driving, a high frequency sound (which I thought was a loose heat shield that the seller warned me about) became more intense. Then all of a sudden my speed drops but my rpm is still steady. Dash lights light up like a Christmas tree and the engine is toasted! I pulled over, called my roommate to come back and called the seller. At first he was giving me the "sold as is" bs. He came out to meet me, and he tried starting the car again and there was the definite sound of piston slap. After some convincing and negotiating, he called a tow, we went back to his place, and he gave me (most) of my money back. Real shitty deal for me and him. He really needed the money and put a lot of time rebuilding the engine. I sold off my beater because I thought I was going home with this legacy. Looks like the skyline is coming out early.
