  • headlight restoration

    hi all,

I just bought a new car, plastic headlights. repainted the car but the headlights are faded and look very poor. I know the guys on MightyCarMods (youtube) had some headlight restoration kit they used but after a quick tour at cdn tire I couldn't find anything.

has anyone used anything worth trying? thanks

It's a plastics polish you get, many companies make them
Use a buffing ball that attaches to any drill
Put cream on ball, ball on headlights, watch and be amazed

I used a kit once, I think it was made by Meguirs? Also, 3M has a clear headlight cover film that you can put on after polishing them up, it's supposed to keep them from getting faded again.

I bought one from My local parts guys for my bimmer lights. Came with sandpaper and varying compounds. Great for oxidation but if you have pitting like mine did your kinda s.o.l.

Pretty sure canadian tire has a couple, by the cleaning stuff, maguires makes one, I used a nu-finish one with my soarer lights, didn't have the little buffing wheel though, worked ok but not the best, I would recommend one that has a wheel for drill

Best kit I have used hands down. Take your time while doing it and your headlights will turn out awesome. With the polish and sealant, your headlights should stay looking great for months. I did mine right before winter and they are still looking great today after I washed the car. Pretty sure I bought it at Crappy Tire too.

            Quote from Meguiar's website:

A safe & effective hand sanding & machine polishing system that restores optical clarity to severely oxidized, yellowed & scratched headlights. Professional results are made easy with Meguiar's® Sanding Pad & Finishing Discs (1000 & 3000 Grit), followed by Meguiar's® Easy Buff™ polishing pad that attaches to your drill. The included Headlight Protectant provides UV protection and helps keep restored headlights looking like-new longer!

Just wetsand with varying papers up to 1500 or so, then buy some plastx and buff.
