  • I hate auto shops

So I'm trying to sell my old Honda civic, kept it in good shape etc..... Any way, brought it to a shop to get a fresh inspection done before i sell it. The next day shop calls and says I need new rotors, all new ball joints in front, brake shoes for the rear, and a brake wheel cylinder. Thought it was a little fishy since I put new ball joints in and new brakes including rotors and drums all around. I tell him to give me a quote and I'll decide if I'll get it done or now.

I pick up the car cause I needed to get home from work and the brake pedal pulses real hard and there is a scraping noise coming from the rear. I have a 15 min ride home, brakes pulse still but the scraping is mostly gone.

Call my brother who works at a parts store.... Gets all the parts that the shop says I need for $100.

Shop calls me next day, $600 he said to do it all! This is when I really start to ponder.... 100 for parts that "I need" and 500$ for labor? No possible way it takes 6 hours to do those little things. I tell him I'll think about it....

That night me and the in-law haul the car in his garage to do the go over( this is where I wish i could post pics) all the ball joints are fine, same with the rotors which I expected cause I changed it 6 months prior. Check out the back and the scraping is from a brake shoe which was twisted to **** and half the brake material gone..... The drum was beat on and seems to be warpped. Pry marks all over the backing plate where the wheel cylinder mounts.

THE BEST THING was seeing the little brake show hold down pin..... A nail with a nut behind the head ad the rest bent over to hold the twisted brake shoe in place!!!

Glad I'm handy with a wrench, cause they sure arn't!

Sued them for what? The cost of a brake shoe and time? So <100 bucks? It's not the states there is no pain and suffering. The info you learned from the bad experience is worth more than any monetary value that could come out of a law suit. Best action would be to file a complaint with the better business bureau to warn future customers.

Or make their morning by shoving a bag of poo through their mail slot in the middle of the night. I'm also partial to the "pissing down the heating vent" trick (really effing stinks when the furnas kicks in, I'm a cheeky little monkey).

Why don't you come over to MySpace and Twitter my Yahoo untill I Google all over your Facebook.

Just talked to my buddy. He went there last week and they quote him $600 for some "issues" on his car! I think it's like their thing, just say there is **** wrong and charge $600.

I will go back and ask them to pay for new brake shoes and a hold down kit. That's what was damaged by them. The rest of the parts are getting returned for a refund, since the car is fine.
