  • Montreal people - advice please!

I'll be in Montreal next month for a friend's bachelor party, we are all coming from Toronto and I'm in charge of hotel booking.
Is the Novotel in a good area for bars and partying? We want somewhere that is close to the action so we don't have to take too many taxis.
I spent a lot of time in Montreal in my younger days, but can't remember much of it anymore.
    Any suggestions welcome!

Public transit service is really really cheap, its 24hrs a day, and reaches quite far.
Color coded routes and stations similar to EU public transit.

Just an option if you find the accommodation in the city is too pricey.
