i second that motion... a GTR is worthless if its got acident history...

plus it will never be the same or fit as it did in the past after a run in like that.

Hmmm... now I'm second guessing myself. The insurance guy said it wasn't a write off and was repairable. He's busy looking for parts for the car. But like everyone says, the car will never be the same, no matter how fixed up it is. Even if it comes out of the body shop looking like a million bucks, I will always know that the car doesn't have all the original parts on it and has been tainted.

Is it too late to tell the insurance guy I don't want it repaired? I last talked to him last week. Suppose he's already ordered the parts and they are fixing it this second? I know I won't get the full value of the car since it's not considered a write off in their eyes. All I can do is plead my case to them and let them know the car will never be the same and when it comes time to selling it, the buyer will have to be told it was in an accident and thus I cannot get what it's worth.

Any thoughts? Do I go ahead and repair it since I probably won't get the what it's actually worth? Or do I just say put a stop to the repairs and take as much money as I can?

Just keep it, I think the damage is high enough, you should be okay, if the repairs never involved tweaking of the frame or anything like that you should be good. I wouldnt worry about it and just keep it, its a bad decision to sell especially now being winter you will already get **** money for it and on top of that the market is already poop.

Update.

Insurance has informed me that the car is a write off and will offer me what they have it valued at. (More than what I would've gotten if I had sold it). The body shop has offered to fix it up for me but I will probably take the cash and let it go.

It's been a great 4 years of ownership and I plan to get another one as soon as I can. Either another GT-R or maybe an NSX.

And if you got some cash for it thats cool, but at the same time if this happened i would have went back to that guys truck and pummeled the **** out of him until the cops got there.....lol

Got a big, fat cheque from the insurance company. Their adjuster calculated that it would've cost more to fix it (parts, shipping, labour, etc.) than it's appraisal value so I took the money. Have pics of the car before they took it away, will post later.

what did you get out of your insco for it?

That can be valuable information to other GTR owners if they ever get into a similar situation and their insurance company tries bending them over.


The front bumper area of your car looks alot like an R34 now, can see what they did there.


Sorry to hear that your GTR bit the dust. Hopefully another owner manages to snap it up from insurance auction and put the parts to good use!

The car at the body shop ready to be taken away by the insurance company. It was hard to see the car in that condition, but the money I was getting for it made it a little easier to digest.





There is a bit to go through if you want to get any kind of cash due to an injury sustained from an accident. Filling out forms, making sure you go for treatments for the injury, going to the doctor's to verify that you are injured, etc. I talked briefly with the insurance person and she said in order to get any kind of cash, the injury must be pretty serious and affect your day to day actions for a long period of time, not just for a couple of months.

But she might be wrong so I will probably go see a lawyer since I do have some back pain. But I've be contemplating whether it's worth the hassle since it's such an inconvenience and I would have to take time off of work in order to accomplish everything required. She also said I wouldn't get any money for my inconvenience (going to the body shop, going to the treatment center for an initial assessment, etc.)

As for the amount I received from the insurance company, let's just say it was almost what I paid for the car when I purchased it in 2005.
