October 16th Rally For RHD Cars!!

Okay guys - after the recent event that has gripped Ontario due to a young man in his Fairlady Z running over and killing two people, we, as a community, have now been put into the spotlight. From Montreal, to the Niagra Peninsuala, to the outskirts of Manitoba, and the edges of Penetanguishene, RHD owners and enthusiasts are feeling the effects of this sad event.

Our vehicles are being oust as a "risk" in the eyes of the Government, and law enforcement. It's already been passed in Quebec, and if we don't lobby against it as soon as possible, it'll happen here too...

A Right Hand Drive Ban could VERY well be put into effect.

I would normally recommend a spring cruise, however, the sad truth is that spring may very well be too late. The Government could pull a fast one and have this over our heads as early as January. The cold October air will do our turbos and engines some good too, cause it's neither too cold nor too hot!

I'm asking all those who are interested to sign up, by either PM'ing me or posting in this thread, to come out for a cruise starting at The Scotiabank Centre in Ottawa Ontario, all the way to right in front of the Parliament Buildings, and ending back at Scotiabank Place, on October 16th.

A time to start cruising will be set as we get closer to the date, and the list grows, but in the meantime I urge EVERYONE from Toronto, to Montreal, to Ottawa, to sign up, and start at a meeting place, and arrange to drive down with us.

We have to defend the right to own our automobiles. The majority of us are responsible drivers. Sign up your cars, speakerphone them! Get the word out that we're not bad drivers! That we're not irresponsible!

Let's make a day of it and have a BBQ and show and shine too!

Something has to be done, and this is the best way to get the word out!

I have one seat available for anyone who needs a ride - I do not drive a Skyline, I drive, a black Fairlady Z.

So lets get the ball rolling.

It's doubtful I'll have my hands on my GTR til the spring, so I want to do everything possible to destroy any chance of a ban here in Ontario. So I'm down for it. If I can catch a ride, or drive my truck, I'll go. So sign me up, hoss. Let's show the country that RHD is NOT the issue!

Before you go organizing a big rally, I think it would be wise to wait until you have something to rally against. The Government has not made any announcements that even relate to banning RHD cars in Ontario. Let's let things cool down a bit before you go planning any demonstrations, as most likely you will hurt the RHD community more than helping it out.

Quite seriously, organizing a cruise, and putting yourself in the spotlight is THE WORST thing you could do right now, and you will only serve to make enemies within the RHD community.

Please do us all a favour and stop this cruise for now. Thank you.

P.S. Not to be rude, you keep saying "we" but you don't even own a RHD car do you?

Although it was my suggestion for a cruise, I think I agree with what Matt from Right Drive said in the other thread. We should see where this goes first, otherwise it will look like we are just a bunch of punks looking for a scrap. Maybe we could look into some sort of self publicity with a windshield banner or something to say that we are safe drivers in cool cars instead of street racers? That way we can get a head start on our cause without looking too aggressive.

              I stand corrected.

But would you please call this rally off until you have something to rally against?
As CelicaKidd said, there are some more positive ways to create a better public image of RHD drivers. Put your energy into something that can improve the public's perception of RHD cars instead of ranting and raving about something that doesn't exist.

well i drive normal & if i wanna go fast ill go to track like everyone else
i dont think this ban will happen all cause some drunk kid in a RHD crashes.
(thay should look into banning LCBO 1st or LHD cars cause thay kill more people in ontario then RHD cars & cause we all love our cars to much to be careless drivers.)
personaly i think that thay should make rules like to be able to drive RHD you should have a full drivers lic for min 5yrs(for experance driving reasons) so some kid who never been on the road before cant just get a RHD & do dumb things kids do when thay 1st get there lic + waiting 5yrs thay can learn to respect outher drivers on the roads too.
every year i drive my gtr in the c7 spring & fall tour here in toronto it is a cruise to show our support for MADD.(there is usaly over 200 cars)
this is kinda my way of a positive public image of RHD drivers supporting MADD.

I got my first RHD at the age of 18. Only thing is, I was much more responsible than the average 18y/o so instead of getting a high power RWD car, I got a medium power AWD car. Driving my first Celica through the winter gave me very good experience on how to control an AWD car. Just over a year later I've already upgraded to the more powerful ST205. I still drive it in winter, and I never drive in a way that would endanger myself or others on the road. Why should I be made to wait an extra 5 years to get a RHD car when I know lots of 23 year olds who should not be driving cars even this powerful, let alone a 300+hp Fairlady Z.

It all comes down to skill and responsibilty. Both of which are hardly covered in the Ontario driver's education system. If the government really wanted to do something about this they would invest in full skid pad training and much more intensive in-car driver education.

lol it was just a thought bud ...like you said in your post (I was much more responsible than the average 18y/o )you must be special lol
so like you also said you "upgraded" just over a year later, cause your celica gave you experience.
so you did atleast go thru one whole year driving with a normal car ?
man this can go for ever cause you just love to argue & you took what i was saying out of text
yes it does comes down to skill and responsibilty.
& i did have a high hp rwd car at 16 when i got my lic .long time ago no graduated drivers license then - long as ppl drive responsible thay will do fine

I'm postponing the cruise until we hear some sort of word from the government. In the meantime, lets stop the jabbing - it's making us seem immature, and aren't we trying to go for the exact opposite?
