    DISCIPLINED TUNING - Customer Survey

Hey guys, I was just looking to get some help. I just wondering if you could possibly take a few minutes to fill out this survey for a business me and my brothers are opening, and e-mail it back to me. If you'd like you can leave your e-mail address and I'll e-mail the file to you, otherwise I guess you can copy & paste. Thanks for your time.

Just a side note, this survey is actually to help me secure some funding to help me with this business venture. So please fill out the survey (you can just post a reply in this thread and put the number with the answer beside it) if you can spare a couple of minutes. Thanks again.

      1) no ( I do everything myself if possible )

      2) no ( for the same reason as above )

      4) no ( most work i have had done on my vehicles other than brand dealerships has been shoddy , crap and worse than i do myself )

      5) no ( bodyshops are a specialization , you can't mix a body shop with a tuner/service shop and get the results people will expect. ( not unless you have a large enough place and a staff of people dedicated to each specialization ).

      6) yes (BUT i am a great believer "built NOT bought" - i have as much fun wrenching , hurting myself and finding new cursewords to use as i do in driving it)

      7) no ( i don't trust anyone to mod my car except myself ) I would prefer no mods on a car i buy so i know its not be messed with by well meaning but inept people.

      8) No - if i need your services for my vehicle it's because it's out of the realm of my own capabilities and therfore from good business sense I expect you to tell me what your charges are not barter to see what i can afford.

      9) No ( Donating cars and services to charities means your rates have to cover charity work paid for by your clients , I prefer to donate to charities myself )

Sorry if this is negative in some way . As a business owner i can tell you that you need a focus on one area and do it exceptonally well. Your reputation is your most important asset , without a great rep you are the same as every other Joe mechanic trying to make a Buck.

Form a plan of action , decide where you want to be in 5 years , 10 years and focus on that .

Pick a focus that is based on your strength, be prepared to work incredibly long hours for not much pay , to be bitched at by people , to not get paid by some , to have the CRA hound you occasionally .

On another note if you plan to Mod peoples cars what background do you have ? this takes theory , experience and a full understanding of the platform you are working on. Do you know how to tune an ECU ? you will have to and will be expected to when modding peoples cars.

In your shoes I would start with a valet service to build your business and get yourself rolling , simply because it requires the least amount of financial input , add to it as your client base and reputation grows.

      hope this helps

        1. No due to location / geography.
        2. Yes.
        3. Yes.
        4. n/a.
        5. Depends on the shop. 'Convenience' is not worth sacrificing quality.
        6. Yes.
        7. No, modding / creating a really great ride is too much fun.
        8. Sure, though it's a given at a professional garage.
        9. No. I'm all for saving baby dolphins, just not from cash for my Skyline.
        10. You have alot going on - JDMs/Skylines are speciality automobiles. Focus on what you do really well and build a solid reputation/business from there. Just because you build it, doesn't mean people will automatically come.

        Good luck.

Why London, there isnt even alot of JDM rides here. You'd be way better off setting up shop in Toronto or a bigger city. Not that im against a JDM shop being in London but im still waiting for an autobacs lol..
          Double track drift, yo.
