This province's insurance is silly... in BC i didnt even need a safety or apraisal or anything... just rolled in gave them my papers and they signed me up in 5 minutes with a $110 per month fee fully insured with waaaay extra liability... Im just finishing getting my GTR safetied now this... geeze Im bloody 30 yrs old with no tickets in over 5 years (which was one) and a clean driving record... I'm gonna be choked if i cant insure it after all these repairs... ill just call up my old insurance company in BC and figure out something... it'd be cheaper to fly out there to sign paperwork and buy set amounts of insurance for summers only...

Hmm...I have never once in my life went in person to get insurance. It has always been over the phone and most don't even ask for a signature. Only small brokers required me to sign and mail it back to them.

Just read through the last few pages...I do indeed need to update the first post.

Lant is denying ALL right hand drives on new policies. This has been confirmed. I cannot confirm however if it is ALL RHD or if it has been pushed from any age to anything newer than 25 years. I have heard that any RHDs older than 25 years old (car, not driver) are still insurable.

Good luck to everyone still searching! Sadly this seems like a fight we are losing more and more on every day. It is the sole reason why I do not possess a Skyline today, and why I had to sell my old GT-R before even being able to drive it.
              Victory is on the horizon..

Lant does insure RHD cars under 25 years of age...but only if you bought it from Rightdrive.ca. They have some kind of arrangement.

The only way this will work out for the RHD industry is we take our policies and negotiate a group rate with a provider.

LANT, Silverwheels and Hagerty will not insure RHD's period!!! the 25 year old car rule is no longer valid.
They all have new underwriters which will not touch rhd cars. ...

That is no longer valid.....*from what I've been told*

Right drive used to be able to provide plates and insurance on the vehicle before pick up, people I know that have dealt with RD quite a bit have learned that Mike's insurance connection is now closed. Again its just what I've been told by RD customers, but I dont have any evidence whatsoever to nullify that statement.

                      • My buddy got a job in sask for a week, and apparently you can get insurance from them and everything without a sask address. Someone whos really desperate could look into that

told by who? I spoke with them a few weeks ago and they said Lant was not a problem for them...

if your not talking to them in person and showing interest in actually buying a car, what incentive does he have to help you? Shooting RD an email will just get your inquiry shot down. It will also make RD suspicious of giving out information.

I am just putting out this information for those who are interested in owning a skyline in the future. You won't get help getting insurance for a RHD car you currently own. But if you want to buy a RHD car in the future, you will get taken care of through RD.

I can understand why those who have insurance connections keep it hush hush. If it gains too much publicity, that connection will no longer be available. So understandably, I can understand why RD will not divulge info or help on RHD coverage unless you are a customer.

There is a big push to get rid of RHD cars in Canada (through pressure from dealers, insurance companies etc). So whatever action RHD owners decide to take, I suggest we tread carefully.

                              • I actually bought a car through them, and it's currently in storage till January. One of the main reasons I decided to use them to import my car was because they take care of everything...

Anyways I heard back from them, and they still have means to get your car insured. This again is if (like you had mentioned) purchase a car through them. Not diving into details, but like I had said, you can still get your car insured in Ontario through them.

So if you're planning to buy a car through them, you've covered...
