Very useful thread. I may be in the market in the next year for a GTR and I'll be 23. However I have considered looking for the most-stock GTR I can find and simply sit with it, insuring it for 4 months out of the year and letting it sit for the rest until I hit that magical 25 number. However around summer of 2014 or 2015 I may be moving north of Peterborough, a little ways out of town- and I shall expect a pleasant drop in rates upon doing so. Oshawa is absolutely garbage.

However my license expired last year and I haven't had a vehicle to drive in over a year anyways, so I need to reboot the whole process. Thanks for the thread, a good add on to everything else I've read in the FAQ.

I'll be looking into getting regular non-collector insurance on the R32 this week. I'll let you all know how that goes. My daily is an 08 rogue which will remain insured during the same period. Currently it's with AVIVA Insurance Company of Canada. I'm 30 with a clean record, living in Mississauga, no kids so let's see how that goes.

That's double my mortgage payment, actually.

            It's criminal.

I pay under $800 a year for full coverage on my GTR, but I'm over 26.

Okay I'm in my late 20's, no tickets, married, own a house, and have a daily...

...From what I gather, I should be okay come next year.

I not going to lie, I get scared whenever I see a new Ontario insurance thread.

Wasn't there a post in this thread stating Lant was not insuring RHD anymore in Ontario unless they were 25 years old? Maybe it was another thread.

                  EDIT: It's this one: http://forums.gtrcanada.com/eastern-...-today-31.html

So that means the only coverage we can get now is Facility?

Or insure a daily driver for 6 months ( don't know why there's a time limit)
With State Farm or a couple others and then insure a skyline as a secondary vehicle .
                      Liability only. Best chance!

I believe the reason they insure after you have another auto policy is because,
All licensed, drivers with registered vehicles have a right to insurance. And if you currently have a policy
Then your current provider is obit aged to be " fair" to you.

So with your car being used infrequently and only liability it reduces there risk.

But understand we have a right !
If licensed and with a plated registered car you have a right to insurance.

If your insured, you have a right to be treated " fairly"

If you push on this and they refuse. Get the underwriters name
And call fisco, or ribo, and their ombudsman .

Or just get full coverage through facility

So people only read one post in the thread? I'll pretty much repeat myself here...

Lant (Haggerty now) will still cover them. They are are just enforcing thier rules "zero tolerance".
They will not insure one of our cars under thier policy that is not "collector material" in thier eyes, as this is what the policy is FOR. People trying to insure thier beat-up mess will no longer be able to do so as Lant will assume it's used "normally".

Also it's not the RHD thing per say, it's just that lots of thier clients that are fawkin up lately have these cars, trying to just get covered because they can't elsewhere......then being dumb enough to make claims in the WINTER when you would think true collector vehicles would be stored.

To those jerk-offs, if you want to DAILY your Skyline, pay to play....use Facilty if you have to. Or get in good standing with your current provider and maybe they'll consider your Skyline as a 2nd. (like stated above)
Don't **** up peoples day who are doing it legit.

We have no choice with the stupid insurance BS here anymore, and lets not have our community making it even worse...

It was brought to my attention yesterday while at MattiasJacobs' place that indeed Hagerty (lant) is starting to get a bit touchy with the RHDs because too many people were dailying them and filing claims...I have heard the rumour of them bumping it up to 25 years of age, from 15, to be considered a "collector" car in their eyes (cannot confirm this yet). I sure as hell hope not.

However, it wouldn't surprise me seeing as most people (including myself) see this as one of the only options for reasonably priced rates for RHD. I truly find it disgusting what insurance companies in this province charge. While it may be this bad because its privatized, provinces like Alberta have privatized insurance rates as well and rates are dirt cheap (kids younger than me, ~21, paying less than $2,000 a year for full coverage under their own names). Also, its like that outside of the GTA, with friends of mine like bignate covering 3 RHD cars under his own name (younger than 25) for the cost of less than 1 in the GTA.

They never said anything to me about the 25 year thing specifically, but I didn't directly ask that either. Just the collector thing.
Hopefully not but nothing would suprise me anymore.....

Something REALLY needs to be done about this situation.
I'll say it again, some company could make some $$ by opening up a RHD "division" of thier company, or a broker does the REAL risk research that could insure ANY specialty vehicle for daily year round use at reasonable rates....

                            RightDrive.......HELP!

I'll keep this short... on the note of a "RHD division"...

                              It won't happen.
RHD vehicles still make up less than 1% of vehicles currently on the road in Ontario. From what I was told the revenue brought in from this "group" would be completely overcome by a single major collision where one of these vehicles was involved.

                              In other words,
1000 RHD owners stay accident free = $1XX.XXX revenue for insurance company
1 RHD owner totals car and causes pile up = $1,XXX,XXX expense for same company

Not worth the risk factor, in other words.

We're big enough to have insurance companies changing thier policies, but not big enough to have insurance companies change thier policies.
I need to quit reading these threads :-(
