    • hey guys, has anyone intalled an aftermarket deck in their r33? does anyone sell the wiring harness adapter? or do we have to cut the wires and splice everything? I found an install guide that gives the colour codes but would rather use an adapter so that I can unplug at any time...

      • Mine came with an adapter. I would guess a 240 / 300 ZX adapter would work

        • 240sx adapter from walmart. 7 bucks. also an universal full set antenna adapter for about the same price.
if u go to futureshop or some **** u'll pay at least double.
I love the thing and its worth it every time I start it. As soon as it stops make me smile ill get rid of it (not gonna happen)

haha true. but if you use the wiring harness stated you will save a lot of time and make your install a clean one.

              • so...the wal-mart one should be the same as the futuershop one right? lol I have a double din i plan to install, does it just fit flush in? and can i re-use the brackets already in there? or would I have to get one of those dash mounting kits? I used one awhile back on my 240 and they were pretty bad lol...but then again it was on my s13 but the kit was not made for it(kit listed all sorts of older nissans EXCEPT the s13...)

                  • yepp~~well I'm considering selling it to install a single DIN unit, currently there is an Alpine cassette player and EQ installed..came with the car from japan...so it's aftermarket i assume but I haven't taken it out yet to see..i'm HOPING the harness wasn't shredded up and that there is an aftermarket harness and radio adapter lol...somehow I highly doubt it...but i'd like to be prepared as I found the wiring diagram...

but now my concern is whether the double din will fit flush and mate with the brackets, or will i have to get a dash mounting kit...

                    • Yeah they are good for using aftermarket harnesses in Japan. Especially on a car like this that needs the dual antenna adapter anyway....

Well if it has a double DIN now that sits flush, why would the next one not?

                      • oh sorry, what I meant was that right now the car's alpine is two single din units...the top one is a cassette, the bottom is an eq...

hmm...it looks like two separate DIN units to me...i guess the only way to find out is to rip it out tonight and see lol if it is a double din unit or at least using a double din bracket and aftermarket harness, all will be good lol...

i gotta put up pics...i just got this car two days ago...drove it from montreal to Toronto

                        • If your alpine sits flush now it should be the same for any A/M car audio. If you are referring to OEM R33 brackets it can accommodate double din units quite easily.

If its a little off on fitting you can definitely use the holes on very front side of the unit just before its default mounting holes to make it sit flush
(I have done this with my previous car and it looks nice)

As for wiring harness just get it at Canadian tire. You will have to look for 1989-99 Nissan Audio wiring harness, plus their antenna is male single pin to female double pin.

To wire this you just have to plug in the wiring harness to your car then you will be left with color coded wires that you just match with your new car deck. But for double din multimedia sets you will need a switch to make it work while the car is moving (not recommended for drivers) :P

Whatever you do, do not spend top dollar at future shop for the same cable you can get for $5 at Canadian tire

thanks guys, i'm gonna take out the current alipne unit(s) sitting in there tonight and see if there is a harness already there..i'm hoping so, along with antenna adapter

Yes the harness is there but it is a one time use harness. The end of it plugs in to your skyline audio output but the other end is connected to the unit which is something you can re-use but painful to retrace each wires. You will soon see what I mean. Trust me on this I learned the hard way of tracing each wires. lol
