  • Wpg area JDM shop...

If a JDM shop were to open in Winnipeg to supply parts (new and used, oem and aftermarket), engines and trannys, whole cars, and do work for all JDM cars and offer online ordering and stuff, do you guys think it would make good money and would you guys shop there?

too small of a market to survive in winnipeg. thats why all the tuner shops carry 90% honda parts, because it's what winnipeg is and what winnipegers buy/ drive.

I would shop there and get work done, but if it could survive the winter is another story.

        Ditto^

Making good money though... I mean, we're Manitobans. We're "always looking for a good deal" so having the shop staying profitable... Tony & Coach have a point. Unless the shop diversifies then you're kinda stuck in the water and if you do diversify it would defeat the purpose of the shop focussing on JDM.

kinda hard to beat the wicked prices chris has on parts. i would never let a shop work on my car because of two factors. 1- how retarted the pricing is to get work done. 2- i dont trust people working on my car. As anthony stated the shop wouldnt survive because the market is all honda

Well it would mainly be for imports, but could also do JDM Honda engine swaps and such. I know a couple people with JDM B18's. And too another point, business would be tried to be done with wholesalers and suppliers so prices would be the same, just parts would be available locally (OEM and aftermarket), and parts cars, etc. Goal isn't too get rich, but have a good supply of parts and such easily accessible. If the plan fails it's not my money getting wasted anyway haha.

There is deffinately a market here for it, as there really would not be any competition. I am not sure but a 250,000 to 350,000 dollar loan should get a good start (with an all wheel dyno of course) and if you have a legit Tuner. Your Tuner has to be good or word will spread that he is not.

don't you need like a minimum of 500 thou in capital to start up a dyno?

I think bong rips is thinking more for parts, but a tuner addition would be a good idea, seeing as how walls will no longer do imports.

Someone told me that an all wheel dyno is around a 100 thousand. Bong are you just talking parts ? I have actually given this some serious consideration, but the guy I want for a tuner is moving to Australia.

I think a big thing would be location, it would obviously be alot more expensive on Portage ave somewhere, but in the end I think it would be worth it.

Is that the shop just outside the city? Called him about a swap to a rb25 and he said could do it if he was given instructions. And if so, that's still outside the city and could be an inconvenience to some. If there was one in the city, you could come check out parts cars faster, drop your car off for what it needs and bus back, etc. It would just be more convenient if its the same place I'm thinking of
