  • Vancouver inspection this week

    Hello all,

My R33 Skyline will be ready for pickup from port this week and I'm planning on driving it back to Calgary with me. Is there someone or somewhere I could take it to in Vancouver that would do a once-over just to make sure it'll make the journey OK? I can pick it up starting Wednesday.

    Cheers!

Edit: Further to that, do the cars usually come with gas and oil? I'm assuming so since my car was shipped RO/RO.

i would bring a jug of oil and coolant/water, and a jerry can of gasoline with you to the docks just incase.

of all the cars ive went to pick up, it seems to be pretty hit or miss for being topped up with oil/coolant, but all of the cars ive picked up have been empty on gas.

and im assuming you're picking up at WWL, the local run down gas station that used to be in Queensborough near the docks has been shut down, the nearest one is a little ways away and might be out of range for your car on empty.

        ^ what he said..

There is a Shell pretty close that you can make it to no problem if you dont have time to bring gas to you.. just dont idle to much:
        http://maps.google.ca/maps?saddr=Ann...0,1&sz=16&z=16

I have never ha da car run out f gas on me fresh off the boat, and im there a lot picking up cars. i always make it to the gas station. that being said better safe then sorry if you can bring a bit of gas. peace of mind..

make sure you bring jumper cables/booster pack dock workers aren't supposed to help you jump your car. so if you need a jump and you have a dock worker on a bad day, your going to be dead in the water unless you have a booster pack.

Also keep in mind the the walk from the gate to the office at WWL is pretty far.. and if you are carrying a lot of gear.. not fun. and then you have to walk back.

as for the rest of the fluids you should be fine. they dont drain any of those.
again for peace of mind having 1L of oil with you cant hurt. but there is a walmart 2km from the dock that will have all that stuff to in you need.

good luck. what day you coming down i would offer to pick you up at the airport. but im prolly working.

Thanks Derk! I've also got a recommendation for CVI Auto so between those two places hopefully they can squeeze me in for a quick inspection and oil change.

Thanks for the offer dah_hunter! Coming down on Thursday, but my dad is flying out with me and we're renting a small car for the day. Can you boost the car with another vehicle or do they not allow cars into the port? Puts us into a difficult position because neither of us live there and we don't really want to haul a booster pack back to Alberta with us.

I did see that Shell and noticed it doesn't look too far away. Can you just leave a deposit with a gas station and borrow a jerry can? I don't think they'll like us bringing one on the plane and, again, don't really want to buy one to have to haul it back, although I suppose that's less of a big deal.

I would jsut buy a jerry can at the walmart

everyone can always use an extrea jerry can..

and hauling it back shouldn't be that big of deal.. should have room in the trunk.

Lol.....that's exactly what I did last time I went there to pick ip a car. Everything you will need is at WallyWorld. Just be fore warned, that gas station has the highest prices in the lower mainland, expect to see $1.50 on the board. Just get enough to get out of there and fill up outside of the city core. Chiliwack is the cheapest place enroute to AB to fill up. Then us, was $.99 a litre at 7-11 the other day, sitting at $1.15 now.

              Jon.

              1990 GTR Drag Special T88H34D 11.24 @ 127.55mph at only 1.2bar...... officially. SOLD
