  • moving to alberta from kelowna, what to do with my car?

Help, i am moving to calgary from kelowna, my car is finally running after a many year project. should i just keep it a BC car or re reg as a Alberta car. it has no Parking brake setup, no ABS no Hicas no P/S no odometer no gas gauge and no speedometer, other then the deletes its tip top though. would it pass an OPI inspection. also its registered as a 1989 generic nissan so icbc insures for 500.00 a year. i barely drive it also I've had for 10 years and maybe put 800kms on it.
    Trust T618Z,Carrillo Rods,CP Pistons,Tomei 280 10.8 lift ProCams, Tomei Spec C Springs, N1 Block, ARP, ATI, ATL, Bosch 044,Sard 800cc,PFC,Z32 etc.......

Would need the park brake for sure, insurance is cheap out here too, 400 for 6 months for me, but sounds like it might need some work first

park brake - a park brake is required since it was provided as OEM hardware (unless you can prove it isnt OEM hardware)
abs- They are supposed to run an ABS diagnostic check for any visible codes. Highly unlikely they will do that for you car since it is not OBDII.
power steering/HICAS - it is a fail if the power steering system is disabled, active steering does not work as designed, or any codes exist. It will be difficult for them to check for codes, and they cannot really prove that a P/S or HICAS system is absent.
no odometer - If the odometer is visible and does not work, it is a fail. If it is not visible at all, it is ok.
no gas gauge - not required.
      no speedometer - Fail.

With all this said, there is no guarantee that the shop will follow this exactly and may go too far with finding faults. Also, you may get lucky and they may miss some of the required items. You can see all the requirements in the OOP manual here:

        Off topic question

How did you import it 10 years ago?

        it wouldnt have been legal?

8 years old is the max it could be to import legally.
        (Imported into canada 2004)

        anyways.
